Fort Ramiel

A notable location throughout all of written history, Fort Ramiel is an ancient fortress built atop the Ailian continent's largest coal mine, as well as an entrance to the Underdark. The fortress has been fought over countless times, however its occupancy was made illegal during the Grand Armistice at the end of the Second Resource War.   The Fortress was constructed during the Ancient Age. During the Great Judgement, the fortress's purpose changed to protect the Ailian Wood Elves from the Demon Scourge. Ultimately, the fortress would be devastated and destroyed, although many magical creatures were able to retreat to the Underdark and seal the entrance with a magical spell that only an Elf, Dwarf, Orc, or Changeling can open.   Two thousand years later, Fort Ramiel would become a battleground during the Resource Wars. The Fortress is well known as the site of the Wild Mercenary Siege, which occurred on the 1st of Autumn's Dawn, 2000 AGJ, in which the Arbhorian Oaken Legion mercenaries and the Brilish Stag Ranger mercenaries would attempt to siege the fortress and claim it from the hands of the Steel Ravens, a three thousand strong mercenary band hailing from Novodelia. The Oaken Legion would eventually be victorious, with General Vykadeen of the Steel Ravens having been mistakenly murdered by Kebab Fingershoes as a result of magical deception. The remaining Steel Raven and Stag Ranger mercenaries were taken prisoner.   Following this battle, the Demon Lord Vorston would appear, where he proclaimed the coming of his Frigid Wrath that would cleanse the realm. Due to his disdain for mercenaries and a desire to thin out the herd before the winter solstice, Vorston unleashed the Rings of Frigid Wrath upon the mercenaries present that day. This event begins the plot of the Curse of the Frigid Wrath campaign.

Purpose / Function

Fort Ramiel was built in the Ancient Age by the Ailian Wood Elves, who constructed the fortress to serve as a safe-haven to protect them from the harsh wilds. The fortress later became a military bastion following the declaration of the Great Magic War. In the Age of Men, Fort Ramiel has seen countless battles for its strategic position and the natural resources it sits upon.
