Principalities
Purpose
When God chose to elevate humans above all other mortals, once the demon threat to them was mostly under control, God needed other choirs of angels to oversee the education of humans. The archangels could not do it, as their purpose was to oversee the protection of mortal species, not the passing of knowledge. Therefore, God created the choir of Principalities to guide the lower angels in the work of educating humans and creating civilizations. Eighteen Principalities were created, and the Earth was divided into eighteen regions, each with its own angel to oversee those in its region. Each Principality also had a group of angels in the region whom it would guide when it came to passing knowledge to mortals. After God became upset that these angels were being worshipped, most - but not all - of the Principalities became more hands-off, spending more time in Heaven and rarely giving further advice.
Though there are only eighteen of them, the Principalities do not hold to any strict identity and therefore do not have names. Most prefer simply to be called "Prince" in any language.
Basic Information
Anatomy
As angels, the Principalities are beings of energy and have no true physical form. Instead, they take on forms as needed.
Genetics and Reproduction
As angels, the Principalities cannot reproduce, though they do enjoy the experience of sexual pleasure from time to time.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Principalities prefer to return to Heaven to restore their energy instead of consuming food on Earth or merely resting.
Behaviour
Principalities often hide their minds from all other angels, and speak only of things that are important to their tasks of educating humans. They are deliberate in all that they do and do not waste time on pleasantries or little enjoyments. They are very observant and loyal to the raising up of the human race. Only their obedience to their work and their reluctance to carry strong opinions kept them from being caught in the Fall with so many other angels who dedicated themselves to humans.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The Earth was divided into eighteen regions when the Principalities were created, and each Principality does not leave its region except to rest in Heaven.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Principalities are extremely powerful when it comes to understanding why and how things happen, as well as in their ability to see all the possibilities for what may come in the future.
Civilization and Culture
Gender Ideals
Principalities rarely care for gender, even when appearing among mortals. In the rare instance when they choose to engage in sexual activity, they still do not often follow mortal gender expectations, often remaining genderless or frequently changing form throughout the encounter. This typically does not bother mortals, as the sexual energy involved is more than enough for their satisfaction.
Relationship Ideals
The Principalities only form lasting relationships with others in extremely rare circumstances. Most never have, but some do every few hundred years.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Angels, by nature, know and understand all spoken and written languages on Earth.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Most species, aside from demons, do not fear the Principalities, though they are often awed by their power.
