Kingdom of Solaris
There were two goddesses born to the continent. The twin daughters were named Helia and Fengari after the Sun and the Moon. The duality that came from two goddesses holding the same throne began to divide the continent. War and conflict crawled through the people, No shadow or hole was safe from being tainted with religious conflict. This came to a climax 100 years ago in what became known only as the Great Battle. The nations were at war to no end, and Helia devised a plan. In an effort to create a unique purpose for Fengari to fulfill, sacrificed a portion of her life force to fabricate the inverted plane, a direct reflection of our world for her sister to rule, and to end the division by removing the conflict where it began; Two goddesses atop the same throne. Helia placed Fengari to rule over the new plane and banished her for an eternity, never to see her sister again.
Helia has since spent her time attempting to recover, which was desperately hidden by the church in an effort to prevent a loss of faith in the goddess. When it was discovered truly just how weak she had become, a great evil began to amass. The Mind Flayer had been waiting for his moment to seize power of the continent, and began taking advantage at first of the weak and malleable minds of people with a newfound religious uncertainty. He created a new following known as the Hand of Illithid. As an outcast of his Hive Mind that has since been entirely exterminated he began reading on arcane tradition.
In his journeys he encountered a curious wizard named Aurelius. Aurelius was the only being he’d ever encountered that was impervious to his ability to intellectually and psionically dominate. The power hungry wizard would trade even his soul for more knowledge to strengthen his magic power, and eventually this came to be as he offered the Mind Flayer a deal to share his knowledge in all things arcane as he would impart what he knows about Psionics to him. When combined, they began practicing foul ritual magic and began unearthing beasts and monstrosities and unleashing them on the people of the world. Growing their forces quietly with little to no opposition.
The opposition eventually did come for the Mind Flayer as Helia had sent a group of unlikely adventurers on a quest to what she would hope could be her only chance at the demise of the Mind Flayer. The adventurers known as Huff n’ Puff would find their way into the Mind Flayers cult and begin to unravel and expose his evil and torturous deeds to the world. Despite being blessed by the goddess, would eventually face a force greater than anyone, even Helia could have foretold. The group of adventurers fought bravely but ultimately were crushed and taken by the Hand. The Mind Flayer kept their bodies as trophies, propped up with the psionic abilities of his thrall of intellect devourers. With his new army he marched on the temple of Helia and killed her in cold blood on the grounds where her followers worshiped her. This began the Great Calamity.
Sitting on the throne of Solaris after eradicating the population of the city, the Mind Flayer set out for ultimate power that would eventually allow him to sit on the only throne greater than the throne of Solaris. The throne to rule over the Material Plane itself as a true deity.
The forces of the Hand have been slowly destroying and making refugees of villages all over the continent. This has forced many people to seek out the three remaining capital cities for refuge. Somewhere where they can be protected by a military force to deal with the beasts and monstrosities that the Hand sent to destroy their homes.
Since the Calamity, a force has begun development in Everton. Everton always had a formidable military and 5 years ago the Royal guard branched out into two unique forces and the Knights of the Emerald Ring was formed. Left to oversee and train up this specialized group of soldiers was The Monocle. He began as a human wizard who discovered a way to house his soul inside of an automaton. Left in a body deprived of the ability to practice his Arcane powers, he became obsessed with the idea of driving others to the potential that he never realized for himself. He began training up soldiers, and those that were typically trained in basic martial combat, The Emerald Ring expanded and began training their soldiers in the use of magic and special enhanced abilities that became far more powerful than the numerous infantry of the Royal Guard. Eventually as word finds more ears, the Emerald Ring becomes a proving ground for the best and brightest adventurers across the kingdom and they begin amassing a versatile group of knights to eventually bring an end to the rule of the Mind Flayer, and remove him from not only the throne of Solaris, but the material plane entirely.
