Basic Information
Anatomy
In their original form are Chromelions quite boring to look at. Small quadrupedal reptiles with orb-like paw tips to be able to stick to walls. They received their name from their chrome-like fine scales, which are covering their body and even their eyeballs. Small amber pupils are hidden underneath the scaled eyeballs. Chromelions love to take sun baths and usually don't move around much unless they get into a mischievous phase of theirs.
Using their ability to transform their miniature body into larger beings they love to cause mayhem in the palace. But due to the conversion of mass rule maintain they their lightweight and can therefore be fairly easily distinguished.

Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Formerly a very rare find all across the globe the Chromelion got rehabitated to only exist inside the palace walls of Illox. The desire of the royal family to keep this species in their possession caused them to weave a specially tailored arcane net around the palace area so that the arcane spirit of the animal, in case of their death, will reform and get once again reborn inside the very walls of their captivity.
Average Intelligence
Chromelions possess a far above average intelligence in comparison to other Arcane Beasts. With their ability to shapeshift into other animals and sometimes even humanoids, they require the smarts to keep up with their disguise.

Symbiosis
With Chromelions being the paragon animal of the monarchy and each of the 300 spirits having bonded at least one time with one of the royal family, these arcane animals grew to be quite picky and snobby in their desire to undergo Symbiotic Relationships with the non-sorcerers visiting the palace. Having grown lazy, their drive to achieve duality with a humanoid has gone dormant.
Symbol of Royality
The royal family of Duvara believes in the power of astrology and the might their stellar sign animal lends them. To grow closer to these beliefs have they adapted the magic of transformation to allow each member of the Oribates family to transform into their stellar sign and their stellar sign only. The current monarch of Duvara for example got born under the sign of the mythological goose and therefore exclusively transforms into this majestic beast.
At first I thought it would be a simple chameleon but the further I read it the I got intrigued by the details for preservation and the symbiotic relationships they provide. Definitely got me intrigued! I do wonder if this arcane net and forcing them to be reborn like this has consequences for them as a species, whether psychologically or however these things affect creatures.
Thank you ^^ The consequences of the arcane net are minimal for the species itself. The only thing it does is that these spirits, who are designated to get reborn as the same species again either after a natural death or the death of their symbiotic partner (in case they died within the net) stay inside the grasp of the kingdom of Duvara maintaining monopoly over this ability. There is however the possibility that the member of the royal family dies outside of the net, causing the spirit to take a hike and reform somewhere on the planet. The kingdom sets in that case high-paying bounties to retrieve the chromelion.
