Plant // Growth
"Don't call them Hippies, they really dislike that.
Treehugger they seemingly are ok with for some reason."
Saatists are known for their close connection to the green. Bad tongues even say that they occasionally feel closer to the plants than to any other humanoid being, rendering them unreliable allies or fierce enemies with no regard for others' safety.
These mages have a psychic connection to all plant life, being considered forest guardians filling in the role of their symbiote. They control the green via sharing their lifeforce, strength and endurance with the plants under their command. The more healthy the Saatist is, the more powerful will the plants at their disposal be.
Growth // Zombieplants
Saatists only need mere seeds to infuse them with the power of the Veil brimming in their hands forcing the saplings to an instant growth burst creating short-lived ‚zombie‘ plants that obey their command for as long as their aid is needed. This is the preferred fighting method of Saatists, usable even on dead soil. They usually keep a seed pouch close to their body to store these ‚bullets‘.
Some even expand on that technique, creating a questionable misuse of the natural cycle. They can revert the growth after nurturing the plant to its prime, turning the short-lived plant back to a seed instead of letting it wilt away. This technique is however only possible if the arcanist overstretched their mind far into the territory of the gate of corruption as they are playing with highly unnatural methods of reusing their ‚bullets‘.
Saatists can however boost existing plants as well, linking themselves to the soil and allowing the plants they control to exchange their regenerating lifeforce against their obedience to follow the bidding of the caster. Most prefer in that case root magic turning the area around them into a minefield of wooden tripwires and shackles.
„They have a Saatist druid as backup?
That … is not good, now we not only have to defend ourselves against the enemy but the forest around us as well?
I…pray that he is not a serious type.“A fearful commander
Solar // Water
Saatists have the tendency to gradually alter their body with plants replacing the useless flesh with grafted self-grown body parts to get even closer to the green. This annealing to their new nature allows them to utilize much more plant powers than otherwise, using their plant body to perform photosynthesis or absorb water into their barky bloodstream regenerating energy. Some even go so far, that they might get mistaken for a Arcadian Dryad upon first glance. These nature fanatics are notorious for picking fights with the true protectors of the forests, challenging them to a fight regarding who might be better suited as guardians.
The protector of the Kresant grove, a dryad called Kree, observed the strange wooden wolf with tiny yellow glimmering eyes in pitch-black sockets. The Saatist invaded her grove, howled and rallied the local wildlife around him. Looking at her with a challenging expression. Another mortal idiot, who wanted to take over the duties of one of her kind. And this time it hit her. She sighed and stood up, her barked lips parting.
"You want this claim? You can get it. Keep it secure until your pitiful life expectancy finds its final mark. The Kresant grove is yours."
Kree couldn't keep herself from grinning, as she walked past the replacement guardian of her grove. Finally, someone, who keeps her claim safe, allowing her to take her well-deserved trip out in the world, finally seeing something else than her grove. And for the first time she touched grass, that was not her own. She looked back and smiled at the Saatist again. This time of genuine happiness.

Body Alterations
To assure that the body of a Saatist can keep up with this unique naturebound ablity changes symbiosis a core ability of the arcanist's corpus. They become fertile, able to grow plants out of their very flesh. Saatists grow their new body themselves embedding seeds under their skin which slowly and gradually change the humanoid to something more akin to a plant, a treefolk of some kind. This new body composition comes with a big chance and even bigger risks. Saatists are fairly impervious to damage or they would not be able to assign parts of nature to merge with their self. But this earthly annealing also bears risk of new kinds of infections, like bugs and maggots living rentfree inside their body. And then there is another reason, why this common power is only rarely a first choice.
Dedicated Saatists have a certain smell, that many prefer to not smell. Especially when they experiment with integrating defensive plants of distinct smells or even poisons. Dedicted arcanists of this kind usually work alone or together in a band with the wildlife of Prius.
