The Book of Ignorance
"I...I don't know, chief. I see myself unable to answer your question.
I know I said yesterday that I would be able to identify the thief...but I can't.
I never met any of those on the other side of the window.
Moreso...I was not even on the scene at the said time.
I was at home...reading the newspaper.Witness
Materials & Construction
The book:The orange leather wrapping of the book emits a warmth as if the item itself is alive.
The 200 pages appear organic; they look like ordinary paper but feel like page-sized leaves with thin veins coursing underneath the whole page.
Keep your hand on the book and you will feel a barely noticeable pulse The pen:
An ordinary-looking ballpoint pen, to be stored in a loop on the book' back.
Only while extracting memories the demonic features briefly get visible when countless thin thorns emerge from the now rough and yet slimy looking surface.
It will immediately retract into its silver sleekness after the exchange concluded.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The book of Ignorance is an item made to forget. Its entrancing abilities force you to continue writing until everything necessary got written down.
But to break it down, the process of Ignorance can be separated into 3 steps:
Step 1: Setting the Stage
The first step sets the stage for the process of memory extraction. the bound writes the desired dates on an empty page of the book, where the memory has taken place.
Dates alone trigger not the abilities of the book but much rather set the estimated hunger of it.
When the exact dates got written, the next time a pen gets placed on the page, the spell starts doing its job.
The book doesn't care if you willingly or unwillingly held the pen; it will feast on you regardless. Step 2: The writing process
From the moment the first dot got placed on the page, your mind is not your own anymore. You fall into a vegetative state not witnessing anything of the process.
With the pen placed on the page, the book starts sucking out the otherworldly ink forming words far below the surface.
Like a DNS strang your targeted memories get entangled out of your mind through the pen's syringe-like thorns.
The process is a quite fast one, taking usually a hundredth of the time the memory lasted. With the memory extracted, the book injects a convincing replacement memory tailored to the victim, to cover up the act of robbery. The memories appear then on the page as a written out text. Step 3: A hole
After the process got finished, you stay in the vegetative state for a further 20 seconds, allowing the holder to retake the pen and book hiding it away to prevent a backlash of the memories of yours questioning the altered immediate past. You won't miss your stolen memories, you won't even notice them missing until trying to remember exactly the stolen memories.
If for some reason the memories want to get reclaimed, all that is necessary is to rip out the page.
The book will scream up but don't worry, the page will be regrown a mere hour later to be used once more.

Lawful uses
A wll-known past holder of the book of ignorance in the last century used it for beneficial reasons alone. There are memories you might want to forget.
Bad memories of crippling experiences; a way to heal or at least remove the wounds of the past allowing the maimed to start anew.
...
Just be sure you will die before the holder of the book will, as your memories will all return when the Soulbinding got shattered.
"I can't bear the loss anymore, doc.
I don't see any other way if I want to continue onwards.
I can't forget the past.
...
But you can make me. Please, I beg you!"Patient
So someone must help use it? Would a single solo user be drained completely?
Not really. The book is Soulbound, that means it has to get linked first to a holder, who is providing the necessary energy for the book to awaken and do its thing. The soulbound themselves can use it alone as well, but the book will act special in that case. Memories of its owner appear blurred out to prevent them from accidentally reading/remembering it.
