The eye of Catablus

Chapter 1:
I had lost everything, my house, my company, my honour; my family. I was an empty husk of dread searching for any remaining meaning in this world. To do that I wandered to the place nobody has ever conquered before due to the freezing climate making every attempt to climb the breathing glacier via technological means impossible.
I had nothing to lose and so I prepared an expedition to explore these barren wastelands, where the breeze sounds like as if the mountain is asleep. But nobody wanted to accompany me in this suicidal mission, nobody but my one and only, my best friend; the crimsonwolf Baskerville.
And with him and only the most necessary equipment we two attempted to conquer the uncharted territory.
  Chapter 2:
Four weeks have passed, our food reserves were dwindling and I would have been already frozen to death if not for the heat emitting aura of Baskervill keeping us two warm.
We were currently on our way to get across a slim pathway. Baskerville accidentally hit a rock, which fell over the ledge into the pitch darkness below us. Roughly 5 seconds had passed before we could hear the rocks impact on the ground. The pit seems to be roughly 100 meters deep. I signalled my buddy to be careful as suddenly the earth started trembling. We tried to hold our ground but in the end, we both lost our ground falling down the pit.
I grabbed Baskerville to shield him from the coming impact, but already 2 seconds later I felt the same. Too soon. We must have hit a ledge instead. Ignoring the pain I reached in all directions attempting to get a hold onto something before we continued to fall down and I got hold of a sharp rock. With its aid, I pulled us completely on the edge before passing out, while my trusty friend snuggles himself under my body to keep me warm.
  Chapter 3:
I opened my eyes. Light. A breathtaking view. Baskerville licking my face with a sad face.
I grinned and Baskewille began to waggle his tail igniting it in the process.
My senses were returning through the emitting heat. I looked around me. The ledge was not just a ledge, but an entrance to a cave reaching deep inside the glacier. With nothing better to do, we decided to explore this cavern. A few minutes had passed and we arrived in a huge cave, mad fully out of ice. A small river crosses our way and we decide to follow it to its source. The search ended not soon after as we arrived at a huge, smooth dome of ice reaching out of the wall. A darker oval like spot can be seen below the surface.
Realising what we were looking at I stepped a few steps back to take a look at the whole structure: An eye! easily 20 meters tall and 100 meters wide. And it looked sad, even sadder than how I was feeling at that time. I had the feeling it understood me, as strange as that sounded.
  Chapter 4:
We decided to take a short break next to the eye, filling up our water reserves on the river escaping the eyes lower lid. I took a sip to wet my throat as suddenly my mind began to shake. As if something had entered it with the water, something that wanted to take part in the grief that is weighing heavily on my mind. I feel forced to finally confront all my problems. No. Not forced, encouraged. A soothing voice is encouraging my soul to finally accept the past and work it all up. I started weeping. Crystal-like tears are running down my cheeks, each tear containing a tiny black dot taking away the grief.
I cried for hours, for everything I mourn and with every tear escaping my body I feel lighter. Then eventually the tears stopped running and a weak voice was calling to me. It said only one word before dying again, Catablus! I wanted to know more about this strange voice that shared my most intimate moments with me, suffering with me through my grief.
Taking it all away from me. Making me feel like a feather...as if I had enclosed myself fully from my past. I felt like I got reborn in this very cave. I felt like a new person...wanting to take on the world for a second time. I felt awesome! Praising this unknown voice for its aid it suddenly returned. A soothing chill runs down my spine as my mind projects a lizard-like face smiling at me cheerfully. But then it vanished as fast as it appeared. I reached out my hand realizing that it was strangely clear, just like water. Then it changed into a puddle running down on the floor and into the river. The rest of my body joined my arm as my mind turned black. The last thing I heard was Baskerville, who ran alongside the river following my liquidized body.
  Chapter 5:
Cold. Then warmth. Baskerville was sitting next to me, my clothes in his maw.
I laid next to a river somewhere in the forest below the breathing glacier, stripped of all my clothes. I reclaimed them from my buddy and clothed myself again. What happened to me? Why had I turned to water? Can I still turn into water? I looked at my finger and tried to concentrate. The finger got clear and then solid again. Yes, it seems that I have gotten powers from drinking that water. Magical ones. But why?
A weak voice announced itself in my head:
"You shared your grief with me, made me feel alive again. I thank you, my friend.
May the effects of my Teardrop of Renewal help you finding new goals in your life.
Please accept these gifts from Catablus as a reward. Goodbye and don't forget me..."
This was the first and last time I heard from this Catablus. I tried to find him again on a later date but I sadly failed. It seems that only the broken can find towards him.

Summary

The eye of Catablus is a myth based on an experience story told by the industry giant Vasce Mundo on his dying bed, who claimed that the tears of said eye had cured him of all the grief that was weighing him down at that time allowing him to start anew. He claimed that this expedition also gave him his trademark water powers.
The myth was, however, never confirmed as no-one else was able to find the cave Vasce had described there. The eye was never found, or at least nobody has ever claimed again that they have found it.
The eye of Catablus is a tale, that might be true or not, but it had brought many people towards trying to explore and catalogize the breathing glacier.
This, however, got stopped by the Eternal Counsel in 4800, as the casualty count of foolish pilgrims dying in the endless winter of the mountain searching for a frozen eye got to an all-time peak. Since then the breathing glacier is considered a forbidden zone, which can be only passed by military.

This was such a great read! I love the myth and the story! And I mean, a good doggo companion improves every story.
