The onyx-stump syndrome can only be acquired by getting injected with a Not-Inc. product called „Spissamentrum“ (Formerly known as „Goliath elixir“) and not through any other means.
The wilted condition is neither contagious nor infectious.

Symptoms

The condition shows itself in three subsequent steps.

Step 1:
The veins around the injection point begin to turn ash-grey while the area around the origin point loses its normal colour turning darker and darker until eventually reaching an onyx-black colour.
When this state will be reached the veins from the origin point towards the end of the limb have all turned grey. The virus tries to conquer the other direction as well but depending on the dosis the larger veins will serve as a natural barrier, where it quickly loses its potency.
This step takes between 3 and 5 minutes.

Step 2:
The onyx-black area turns as hard as steel cutting away any provision to the now separated limb. This part of the limb has now wilted to a dry-fruit like state and turned ash-grey. It gets as brittle as a log, who got burned down to ash; bones included.
Any slight collision with this limb will now evaporate it into fine dust leaving behind only the hard, smooth and blackish gleaming stump.
This step takes between 20 minutes and one hour.

Step 3:
The virus is now dormant, having genetically altered the area of the stump into a hard metal-like alloy.
This step lasts indefinitely.

Treatment

Cut away the stump and wash out all veins of the body of any trace of the serum.

This gets occasionally used for correcting falsely regrown limbs of highly regenerative species’ by genetic means. The condition oppresses any regeneration going out from this part of the body allowing the medics to alter the genetical structure to correct the regrowing process. When the serum is removed from the body afterwards, the limb will be able to regrow in the correct form.

This process was not discovered until recently.

History

The condition got first developed and synthesized in 4990 by the mantis Pencari Kencantikan, who was at that time a laboratory assistant of the goddess Notitia. She was trying to create an elixir to harden the shears of her kin to an impenetrable degree while stopping the annual shedding of them.
Pencari successfully created the serum she called at that time goliath elixir and let Notitia inject it into the connections of her both shears. But the serum failed to accomplish the desired job leaving the devastated mantis with two forever lost shears.

Notitia, seeing the potential in the created serum, offered Pencari the best possible prosthetic replacements on the market in exchange for her to transfer all rights of the goliath serum towards Not-Inc., which she accepted gratefully.
Notitia then rebranded the serum as „Spissamentrum“ and offered it to the market of Etherium as a way to make limb replacements more secure and clean.

Causes

The condition can be only acquired through an injection of this highly aggressive serum inside one's veins. it gets sometimes used if the patient has lost a limb to stop the bleeding, but is usually a part of the process of augmenting a body with prosthetic limbs to assure that the flesh is not repelling the new body part.
