Drakes
Drakes are large quadrupedal lizards. Like many reptiles, the drake primarily relies on its forked tongue to detect and smell its surroundings. Drake scent glands are incredibly sensitive, making smell their primary method of tracking. Their eyesight is keen, although their ability to see in the dark is fairly average, around that of most humans. Drake vision is oriented around hunting, and particularly sensitive to motion.
The drake has long, serrated, sharp teeth that regrow constantly throughout the animal’s life. It packs a powerful bite that can easily shatter bone. It also has strong claws that are primarily used for climbing when young, digging, and fighting, as well as capturing and restraining prey.
There are 5 common drake types. These include the 4 elemental types (fire, ice, lightning, earth) as well as Spineback - a venomous breed. Each subspecies has its own coloration and patterning: fire drakes are usually red, ice drakes blue, earth drakes green and brown, and air drakes pale yellow to white. Spineback drakes are usually bright purple or other saturated colors, with markings to warn of their toxicity, much like venomous snakes.
