Iaden

Born and raised in a peaceful culture, taught that fate is real but not unavoidable and used to follow the Fair’s principles as a form of life, Iaden has always been carefree to some extent, working as needed and possible and not worrying about things beyond his control.   He brought that approach to life to the Research facility in the Ninth World, where everyone is encouraged to contribute in their own way, and to his peculiar little family which is part of the Jacinta's family family but... also isn't. Yeah, the Jacintas are still struggling to follow.   I suppose that those things have also changed him, because is not in the Aldeanos nature to focus on more than one thing at a time, but he certainly does so, even when the list is not too long, all his priorities are quite demanding.   While he spends most of his time and effort to seek for the wellbeing of his wife and children, he keeps his position as peacekeeper and a deep rooted connection to Jacinta's family. Free time? That's not a concept he knew as he grew up, and now he claims he doesn't need it, because all he cares for already has a place in his schedule.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Never in the muscular side, you could say he was in better condition before he met Qeleb and copied his habit of using magic to support or even replace physical skills.   He is in good health, but there is an ongoing bet (started and already forgotten by Sou about how much of that is thanks to magic too.

Special abilities

Iaden is a notable magic wielder. The Aldeanos aren't specially know as such, but that's mostly because they enjoy a constant and peaceful way of life, and prefer the magic words that help to do daily chores (an approach that several people follow if magic is a regular element in their life). They also avoid the use of magic to complete the chores for them, create big changes or cause damage of any kind.   He had explored all those spells since he started his work at the Lab, finding a way to balance the job requirements and his principles in the magic he uses to help us.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

As a child, Iaden started marking all the boxes in the Visionary's list, always in charge of tools and preparations for his siblings adventures, but never joining them. Later, as he became old enough to learn healing and cooking spells, the Keeper started to show. It all became clear when he was old enough to be a carer for his younger cousins.   He knew that was his nature, and so did anybody else at home. Simple enough. Even if some outsiders would take him for a provider or a visionary, that's a common and irrelevant ocurrence in his culture.   He never talked about it until he befriended a "male" merchant and failed to understand how any family can distribute tasks with only two genders that in many cases are related to physical parameters and in some are not even well defined. He still doesn't believe that for some cultures it's a matter of choice or 'designation'.

Education

Like any Jacinta child, he was taught "everything" by keepers and mentors of the family, in the times dictated by their customs, and by his character and learning skills.   While he grew up, different people (sometimes working together) showed him how to communicate with other people, the nature around them, magic, and even himself and his fate. With time, he started learning by himself and choosing/looking for teachers according to his goals.

Employment

Like many others in the Ninth World, he was curious about the Laboratory, but never planned to become part of the security team of that organization. He was happy enough fixing treehouses and storages for his family. It was a series of events that he happily calls fate, and believes that it was all meant to lead him to Sou’s life.   He was moved and felt the weight of responsibility (probably for the first time) when Sally said that he, his perspective, was meant to be part of the delicate balance of the Lab’s security team.

Morality & Philosophy

LIke many fair, he seems to have a very flexible moral, but follows a few absolute rules that he rarely disscusses.   During job interviews, cultural exchange conversations and by observing the patterns he follows, his coworkers and friends know a few of this personal rules. For instance, it's clear that he is determined to never commit murder or theft, since those disrupt the balance for everyone involved and sometimes in the life of others. For a considerable time, we all thought those were the things that matter the most to him, next to the well know concept of "honor" that involves showing respect to any possible opponent and keeping the written or implied rules of any batlefield.   It turned out that honor wasn't so relevant to him, and the only moral code that stands more valuable than others to his eyes, is the rule of giving his best whenever he can be of help. Apparently, nothing causes more chaos and suffereing, than a person who doesn't embrace their gifts as tools for the general well being. When his abilities are not helpful—or once his job is done or the situation solved—he has a habit of graciously stepping aside, and probably point at somebody else to take care of the rest.   He almost never make promises, even if you can count with him. If he ever does promise something, you can be sure that he'll keep his word no matter what.   The only time I ever heard him trying to convince someone else to follow any of the principles he learnt from the Jacinta's family or developed himself, was in conversation with Sou, back when she never took them seriously.

Personality Characteristics

Likes & Dislikes

I could be wrong, but it seems that all his preferences are somehow determined by meaning or practical sense.   For example, his favorite color is black because it represents life and earth in his civilization, but he has never cared much about the color itself. He claims to have no preferences besides the meaning, even if he usually wears intense colors.   And why would a person consistently use a color palette they don’t care for? To achieve something:
Oh, this? Cecilia likes it. Besides, I bet she wouldn’t find me in a crowd if I wore the carers’ colors.

  • Family

He has a closer relationship with any of his carers and mentors than he does with his blood parents, but he has a high concept of both of them and loves them as much as the rest of his family. The same goes for his siblings (including the two of them who are his biological brother and sister).   That said, he’s even more close to the cousins he helped raise before joining the Lab.

    Friends & Acquaintances

He is friendly to everyone, helping when possible and never shy to ask for help from those he knows can provide it. He prefers not to interfere in other’s lives unless it’s necessary or prompted, but otherwise treats everyone with a certain degree of familiarity.   It’s hard to notice the difference in the way he treats those who are more close to him, being those of his family and his best friend, Solïtas.

    Soulmate

If you ask me, the single fact that they are actually in love, is evidence enough that yes, fated partners are a thing and somehow Aldeanos can identify theirs at first sight. Sou insists that he just did the hard worked because he was determined, but... it that doesn't explain why he was so determined to form a family with her.
The whole ‘soulmate’ stuff still gives me the creeps, but one has to love a man who keeps finding original ways to flirt after a decade of marriage, even when he took the relationship for granted from day one.
    — Sou’s speech on their second wedding.
Cil, that’s not exactly how fate works. I know it may seem so, but just because something is meant to be, it doesn’t mean that it will happen by itself. What? Why do you give me that look?

    Children

Living in two worlds at the same time (three you could say), they have never felt like trapped in between. Perhaps the grown ups are doing a good job, maybe they are too young to care about anything other than the love, fun and safety they find either at the Lab or when they stay with the Jacintas for an important occassion of because they can't follow Iaden around on his job.
