Sally, an Historian

Author of a lot of the articles in this "Archive", Sally is devoted to the search of knowledge, who always has a question and uses her magic quite often but only for little things, leading people to assume that she's a young girl with some basic magic and more questions than answers. If they are lucky, they only find out that they are wrong about the latter.

Special abilities

Her limitless curiosity and centuries of experience and practice are what she values the most, but she's aware of how useful is her magic. It has been there for as long as the ability of breathing, but she has lived enough to see how uncommon it is in the universe.
Nidauvie magic, unlike other abilities with similar results, doesn't require learning any method to cause changes in the tangible world, it just does exactly what they want because... well, not even Sally has figured out why yet. Among other things, it allows her to induce natural phenomena, transform matter, fix objects (and heal people, to some extent), protect herself, heal as the average abiding would, and affect some other forms of magic.
In theory, she should be able to create magical objects and/or transfer some magic to other living beings, if she had a receptacle strong and hollow enough to receive it. While she has access to some magical items or people who can borrow abilities or magic, Nidauvie magic is too much for them. Either way, Nidauvie magic seems to be useless in non nidauvie hands.

She's not one to carry tools, she is more known by given a use to every tool around her. Sometimes by thinking out of the box or using magic to change objects, but mostly because she knows the properties of things.

Personal history

Sally was born in the The light caves, and for a few years she was considered a prodigy. "She barely ever cries", "She seems to understand every word we say, see?" "Sometimes I think she controls her magic already"... she wouldn't even get sick.
She started to walk a bit late, but she was exploring the world months before and she said her first words (why, what, mami and cold) earlier than a normal Nidauvie child. She was very sociable and patient around others but didn't make a fuss when she was left unattended.
She was a curious and smart child, but soon her parents and teachers noticed that she had trouble keeping her magic under control as it started to be a little too much for a child to handle. Her parents were patient about it, giving her wise advise instead of lecturing her, and before the teachers and neighbors could worry about it, she managed to learn how to avoid dangerous displays of magic. Later, when she entered teenage age and her friends started to ask for advice on control, she would try to explain them how magic worked, so they could know what to do, but they didn't understand then and nobody ever would. What seemed a simple concept for her, was impossible to put in words.
The problems only started when she was asked about her goals and dreams, to determine what skills to nurture. She wasn't sure about dreams, any grown up job seemed "good enough" or "useful", but nothing dream-like. As for skills, she wanted to explore to see what she could do but didn't have a favorite either. Therefore, her teachers asked the last-resource question: Is there a topic you like? Something you enjoy studying?
Her easy answer wasn't welcomed. She wanted to know everything. To discuss everything. The first suspicions of her being greedy started there, and everyone around her worried. They didn't want to loose her, after all. She was a loved daughter, neighbor, student, friend...
They warned her about the dangers of asking too much. She understood what they meant, and tried to live a simple life as everyone else, not to appease them but to know if she could. She couldn't. Unlike other exiled 'Nidauvie', she wasn't judged for her greed, she simply left.

Sexuality

After a few years observing herself, she concluded that she's demisexual, but either aromantic or yet to understand the concept of romantic love.
Once she noticed that, she never gave it much tought again. Just like the majority of people in her world, Sally thinks that the whole thing is about forming a family, and given that her Greed makes her unable to be part of one, it would be a little pointless to endure the complications.
Sure, it can be fun too, but not as much as dissasembling a complicated artifact to see how it works.

Employment

After she left her world she traveled around the universe, following a question at a time for a couple of decades before finding a place where her curiosity could thrive and becoming a Community's Historian.
She's currently in charge of her own research team at the Research facility in the Ninth World.

Motivation

Her goal in life is to uncover the secrets of the universe and as many living beings in it. But she's not in a hurry, she enjoys the process of discovery more than anything.
She always wants to know. She's obsessed with it to the point that she was the first to admit that she was guilty of Greed, the only crime in her home world, because it makes her unable to care for anything else.
Sometimes it may even seem that there is a reasonable purpose in her search for knowledge, sometimes there is one. At some rational level she knows that the actual point of knowledge is to help others: help them to survive, to improve, to interact and maybe even find happiness and purpose. But make no mistake, the main reason is always here greed for knowledge and answers.

Vices & Personality flaws

The thing with people like Sally, is that they live for one single obsesion. No time for small addictions when you are trying to know and understand everything.
As a scientist, she is quite open minded, which may seem like a good thing from the outside and is very useful when it comes to learning and making friends. But believing that everything is possible makes it really hard to have her own beliefs and without that core is easy to be lost, tricked, and manipulated. The only reason not many take advantage of that is because those who know her expect that her experience and intelligence would prevent it, while the rest of the people rarely see any point in trying to trick her.

Fears

In every world there has been a person that says there is no purpose in fear, that the useful reaction is trying to understand. In the Light Caves, that person is Sally.
She's aware that everything is dangerous to some extent, and acknowledges fear as a tool to recognize that, but there isn't something that she finds particularly scary.

Personality Quirks

Too curious for her (and everyone else)'s well being, Sally is always making questions and testing things. She has enough sense to be as careful as possible... when she's not carried out by curiosity.

Hygiene

She's always ready to get dirty for the sake of knowledge, and even to complete a task or be comfortable. She's also always magically clean.

HAPPY The more she ask and the faster she talks, the happier she is with whatever new mystery she had found. SAD Quiet. It's hard to know if she's quiet because she's sad, or if she's sad for the same reason why she's quiet: she doesn't know what to ask. ANGRY Some had survived Sally's rage, that's true. But they don't often talk about it. Apparently, her magic goes crazy. But maybe it's doing exactly the amount of damage that she wants to cause.

Sally likes all kinds of music, it's interesting how the instruments work, and the effect the sound has in different subjects. According to her, silence (total silence) is the most interesting of all kinds of music, but I wouldn't say that makes it her favorite.
