Spellster Guardian

Those who choose to take up the task of raising spellster children within the safety of the tower are known collectively as guardians. The position is rarely spoken about as it is for life and guardians are seldom seen beyond the thick wall surrounding the spellster tower.

Requirements

There is little to keep a person from becoming a guardian, providing they have the willingness to put aside their desires for anything but their spellster's needs, but the requirements are strict. Personal background is irrelevant as those who are lacking certain skills are taught and anyone displaying any abhorrent tendencies is swiftly dealt with.
Because of the nature of the position, people seeking to become a guardian must do so whilst they are roughly twenty years of age. They cannot have children, a spouse or the intention to have either. Despite most guardians having family members living just within the tower's outer wall, visiting is frowned upon and leaving the tower is forbidden. This latter rule doesn't seem to stop people as a good third of guardians are from all across the kingdom.

Duties

A guardian's life revolves around that of a single spellster, this means raising, teaching and punishment should one step out of line. Quite often, this duty begins at birth, leading to many guardians developing a familial bond with their charges.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Because removing a guardian would require a new one put in place to oversee their spellster charge, it is rare for a guardian to leave their station once they begin. A few have been caught in the act of helping the spellster under their care to leave the tower and those few were imprisoned. Those who have raised spellsters capable of joining the army tend to remain and either assist the newer guardians with the children or join the group overseeing the elderly spellsters who've outlived their original guardians.
