Stonebay City Guard

Structure

Running under a centralised command, the city guard is led by the Commander of Stonebay, who reports directly to Stonebay's Mayor. Directly under their command are four junior commanders who are directly responsible for the city districts. Each of the four districts has its own outpost and guard stations, with the exception of the central district which runs from the main guard barracks.   It is from these buildings that the more day-to-day commanding of patrols is under the direct command of a major, who oversees all the sergeants directing the stations of their respective districts. Many sergeants come from noble houses and, on top of commanding a number of patrols, act as envoys and direct contact for the King's Hounds.   Lieutenants are in charge of all patrols at the docks, gates and any that follow a route through high-activity areas such as markets. Other patrols are headed by a captain and include four or more guards. Typically in groups of five-twelve depending on which part of the city they're assigned to.

Attire

Members of all ranks wear some form of leather and/or chain armour, often with less protection as the ranks climb. Those on patrol also wear a tabard with the city's colours and emblem over top, whilst sergeants and above have a cape with the emblem. Their weapons varied slightly but the typical kit was a simple arming sword and a shield that also bears the city's emblem. Most units have a mixture of blades and polearms, whilst others might carry axes or even maces.

Public Agenda

The city guard's purpose is not only to enforce the law (solving crimes and apprehending criminals), but also to ensure the well-being of its citizens and the traders at the docks. They perform everyday policing duties and, during particularly busy hours, can also be found working as traffic wardens to manage the flow of people and carts. The one thing they won't engage with is any suspected sighting of a spellster without a King's Hounds at their fore.   As a peacekeeping force paid directly from Stonebay's coffers, their jurisdiction stops at the city walls and, despite the constant criminal gangs, they pay little attention to the city's slums, allowing an entire underground slave ring to form beneath their unsuspecting noses.
