Nigel (a.k.a. The Transmuter)

"And Agasyl the Fair, daughter of the Demiurge, stroked the cheek of Nigel, saying, 'I curse you with poverty until you have fulfilled that which I have purchased from you.' And ever after, coins would turn to lead in his hands. Fine food and drink would become bland bread and water. Fine silks and cloths became hair shirts and burlap pants. Cultivated friendships would be poisoned with animosity. At last, desperate, Nigel finally consented to sewing war against the giants. He took with his hands all of the copper that he could gather, fashioning from each coin a bullet. He sold these for silver, which he fashioned into even more high quality bullets. He sold these better bullets for gold, and the bullets from those returned as platinum. This last he allowed his companion to hold onto. Agasyl appeared again to him as the warriors marched from the city and against the giants. She bestowed aid and power onto him that he could now turn whatever he touched into gold or success. Thus, Nigel became wealthy beyond imagining, and spread the word of Agasyl through his coinage."
