Structure

The Ascendant Grey acts as a gestalt mind with all members subordinating their will and minds to Lizefa Vernet. Alternatively, she can 'outsource' minor thoughts and parts of calculations to any constituent members, allowing her mind only the thoughts that serve her purpose. Essentially, all members are an extension of her even as they represent myriads of individuals.

Culture

Phrenic Skein is a very wait-and-see organization. They attempt to gather all possible information before making a decision, and most of those decisions are by consensus. This can lead to ponderous responses and missed opportunity, but it also makes the organization act very intelligently and allows it to punch above its weight class.

Public Agenda

For the few who are even tangentially aware of the group, Phrenic Skein is a spy network for hire. They trade in secrets, and very little is beyond their reach if it is known by anyone at all.

The Ascendant Grey owns the town of Echirt, and uses its cidery to generate funds and as an excuse to distribute her network of contacts far and wide.

History

The original members of the Ascendant Grey were the unfortunate commoners who were near Lizefa Vernet when her tower was destroyed by Suc'mor the Griefless. Many perished digging her cylinder out of the ruins. As her desire for revenge and the horror of her new situation coagulated, she sacrificed these thralls to her Intellect Devourers, and the network has slowly but steadily spread ever since.
