Underkibble
"Can I interest you in some fine halfling agriculture product? A discerning customer will notice, of course, the supple feel of this sturdy hat! Not interested in a hat? We have some Sunlight Halo here, give yourself a tan? Kills vampires better than garlic, I swear! No? Alright let's see... got some slumbershaf here. Put it in your wine, go to sleep? Alright, alright... here, I've got some stuff in the back. Scarlett Fairy Fingers if you want to have a good time, Spiteful Puffball if you want someone else to have a bad time..."
~Grimm Weedpaws, Halfing caravaneer.
Manufacturing
In a typical undertown warren, a large chamber will be set aside for the purpose. In the center of the tunnel is a pit, where wastebarrels are dropped. The nutrients from this enrich the surrounding soil of the chamber, which is planted with various mushrooms and crops. Sunlight Halo spores are mixed with charcoal and smeared onto the ceiling, and they provide the equivalent of daylight for the various turnips and carrots grown by halflings. Squares are divvied out for each crop, and the whole place is tended by muckrakers.
Utility mushrooms such as Candleflame Worm Coral and Leatherflesh Shelves are allowed to begin to spore and then mixed into sacks of dirt for transplantation where they are needed. Edible mushrooms are either delivered to market immediately or preserved in vinegar to be stored for later.
Access & Availability
Every halfling undertown makes extensive use of these fungi. If you find a halfling settlement, it's almost certainly cultivating underkibble.
Discovery
The first years of the Undertown System were rough. Halflings were on track to wear out their welcome in decades as beggars and thieves, until a network of biomancers adapted a species of mushrooms to serve their needs. These mushrooms, the first of which were called Trynwyse's Gaze, were rapidly adapted to all manner of necessities for underground life. As the mushrooms were branched out and specialized, the slang name for them took over - underkibble.
