Of course they are one of the riches guilds in the world, they control access to Ghostspider Silk — Jasper Cameron, Leader of the Bronze Ravens.
The only part of the Silkweavers Guild most people ever see is one of its tailors and their shop, though most would never know it from any other tailor. This may cause many to think that tailors rank somewhat low in the organization, when in fact the opposite is true. The tailors are one of its highest ranking members, and quite skilled at their job. All of them are skilled enchanters of cloth, the best are some of the greatest runesmiths in the world.
But I am putting the cart before the horse a bit here. The guild is comprised almost entirely of elves and is the sole power in charge of the gathering and distribution of
Ghostspider Silk. This alone would make them obscenely rich and give them any number of powerful friends, but they also run an information network rivals most major kingdoms. After all people will share all kinds of information and gossip around a tailor. Much of this information is even for sale, for a price nearly as steep as the clothes.
The actual guild grunts, as one might expect, also make up a majority of the non elven members. They are the
Silk Gatherers. Go out, gather up silk, hopefully dont die, and get back, get a payday, repeat. Stay alive long enough and show some skill for finding the more valuable types of sillk and you may get a chance to learn some of the processing techniques to turn the gathered silk into fabrics. Stick around even longer and have no small ammount of aptitude in enchanting and you can possibly get an apprenticeship with a tailor, learning the techniques and runesmithing required for ghostspider silk garmets to reach their near legendary status.
