The Final Planting

The FInal Planting is a rather beautiful tradition among druids and some Ranger Guilds.
— Jasper Cameron, Leader of The Bronze Ravens
Thelona had been one of the pillars of the grove for over a century, but now her time was coming to an end. She had already made her farewells to her friends, and made sure that the family of skunks living near her favorite star gazing spot would be taken care of. Now all that was left was to give the grove a final gift.   She returned to her house and grabbed the packet of seeds that she had chosen. There was an apple, magically preserved, as well as a handful of seeds from her favorite wildflowers. She headed out to the clearing that she had prepared and sat down to wait. Soon, the sun would set, and the moons would light her way to the afterlife. As the sun started to dip below the horizon the started to sing. It was a song that had been handed down from the oldest days of Elves. It started as a eulogy, for the life that she was giving up and transitioned into a celebration of the gift that she was leaving behind.   As the last light of the fading day left the highest leaves of the forest to the oncoming night, the song faded into the sounds of the forest, and where Thelona had been sitting a sappling apple tree now grew. As the Fae Moon started its journey across the night sky the sappling grew taller, and blossoms started to appear on its branches. When the next morning came there was a fully grown tree with branches heavy with fruit, ready to be picked. Around the tree was a small circle of bluebonnets and poppy flowers. Sometime over the next couple of days someone would be by to collect any fruit that the animals of the forest had left, to be shared at a final feast celebrating Thelona's life before the grove went their separate ways until the Midwinter gathering.

Thank you for the read, this was definitely one of the "oh man less than 8 hours left" word-vomit of articles that happened this SC, I'm glad people are finding things to like about it (and many of the other rush jobs)

Check out some of my summer camp articles, like the dangerous flying jackalope or dragon wasps. Or, for something more light-hearted, there is the whimsical language Gobbledygook and Jaden's interesting job as a guano polisher.
