Marks of Origin
Introduction
One of the many magical features which seems to permeate the continent of Koleris the Marks of Origin are a peculiar birthmark which appears on anyone born on the continent. The marks are location specific and the crests can easily be used to identify ones birthplace of origin. These crests are several centimeters in width and uniform in size for a given mark.
Impact
The marks can appear anywhere on the body and experience have shown the place of the mark gives the individual a set of deeper skill, or perhaps expanded ability of those body parts. The difference is not massive though, and the individuals base physique, education, upbringing and capabilities are still the most important factor for their eventual abilities. someone blessed with mark giving them greater innate strength can easily be weaker than an unmarked individual if they do not train or are otherwise of feeble body.
Head: A Marks on the head is a signifier for a greater intellect.
Neck: Marks along the lower face and neck make individuals more charismatic in life.
Heart(upper Torso): A mark in this area gives an individual greater intuitive wisdom.
Stomach(Lower Torso): People with a mark over their stomach have greater fortitude and constitution.
Arms and Legs: Individuals with a mark on their limbs seem to be graced with a higher innate strength.
Hands and Feet: Marks along these extremities result in greater agility and dexterity.
Process and origin
Is is uncertain when in a pregnancy it is acquired, though some argue it first appears at the moment of birth be it through caeserian or otherwise. Stillbirths do not have the mark. Older theories presented that the marks were different according to the old Mandra polities on the continent, but as cities have grown beyond their original borders and people within the new borders still carry the mark, this is unlikely to be the case. Another Theory is that any collection of people will result in a given mark being imbued on the newborn, but several mark borders run straight through the wilderness with no discernable reason as to why the border lies where it does. Calls for planned cities have been proposed by several of the top philosophers of the age , in order to see if a new mark would appear, though no one has really taken this seriously beyond small farming villages, thus far no new marks have been created.
Other Marks
It has long been rumored that individuals with more than one mark exist, and old folk tales often describe them as prices being given by local deities or magical beings, though none have been observed in recent history, and scholars have come to the conclusion that any such marks that have existed are of a different nature to the Marks of Origin.
