The Firstborn

Despite its high fantasy and medieval appearance, Konglardia relative to us exists far in the future. The Firstborn were the first to develop and discover it. Terraforming it into the flat planetoid it is now. The firstborn were a galactic mega-empire. The were fueled by the Aurora which is now the backbone of magic in the world. The firstborn understood this force scientifically, although when they died out that knowledge was sealed away and forgotten.
