The Crafton Letters

Epistles of the Crafton Heirs

The Crafton Letters are a series of cryptic correspondences between the generations of the Crafton family, prominent Illithid tycoons and founders of CraftonCo in the Karyvuk Province. Discovered posthumously, these letters unveiled a centuries-old paranoia towards humans, controversial racial bias, and a prophecy tied to Kraykatyzate, known as the "Heart of Krayvuk."

Letters from H.P Crafton I to H.P Crafton II

The first series of letters were written by the founder of CraftonCo, H.P Crafton I. As he approached the end of his life, he wrote to his son about an ominous prophecy he had discovered during his research in the Karyvuk ceremonial site. The letters unveiled a hidden history, dating back to the first age, involving a cataclysmic volcanic event that resulted in the formation of a resource-rich fissure in the planet. This event was seemingly tied to the Heart of Krayvuk.   The letters contain detailed accounts of his travels, archaeological findings, and the ceremonial ritual associated with the Heart of Krayvuk. A recurring theme was the fear of a future invasion by humans, prophesied to "rain from the skies."   Letter from H.P Crafton I to H.P Crafton II

Letter 1

To my beloved son, H.P Crafton II,   I find myself at the precipice of my existence, the echoes of our past and the shadows of our future colliding in a tumultuous storm within my thoughts. As an Illithid, I have been privileged to have lived through seven centuries, bearing witness to the rise and fall of our kind, the advancement of our society, and the blossoming of your potential.   Yet as I stand at the edge of this precipice, I fear what awaits us. Humans, my son, are not like us. They bear within them a fervor, a raw ambition that has, of late, filled me with a dread I can barely articulate. The Church of Krayvuk's Skree-Human hybridization project, once a beacon of coexistence, has begun to loom like an ominous cloud over our society.   I urge you, my son, to remember our lineage, our Illithid heritage. It is not a call for blind hatred but a plea for cautious vigilance. Preserve the sanctity of our kind, and always remember that we stand at the precipice, not the abyss.   Your loving father, H.P Crafton I

Letter 2

Dear H.P Crafton II,   Our world is changing. The humans are multiplying, their influence spreading like a ripple in the water. My sleep is haunted by dreams of skies raining with humans, their city-ships blotting out the sun. I see their voracious hunger for resources, their disregard for our sacred traditions.   In this battle for existence, it is vital that we fortify ourselves. I have dedicated myself to this cause, crafting an arsenal deep beneath our estate. I trust that you, too, will carry on this legacy.   We cannot falter. We cannot afford mercy. Let us not be the ones who stood by as our world fell into the clutches of mankind.   Your father, H.P Crafton I

Letters from H.P Crafton II to H.P Crafton III

H.P Crafton II, who lived a life of dual identities as a successful businessman during the day and a fearful paranoiac by night, wrote extensively to his son. His letters devolved into rambling rants of paranoia, fear, and deep-seated hatred towards humans. They were filled with warnings, urging his son to prepare for an impending war against the humans.   Letter from H.P Crafton II to Crafton III
To my son, H.P Crafton III,   From father to son, we bear the legacy of our lineage, a chain unbroken since the founding of Crafton Cove. Yet, this legacy is under threat, not from nature's fury or calamitous disaster, but from the steady encroachment of humans.   I find myself in a state of constant turmoil, the fear gnawing at me, day and night. The humans are not like us, my son. They are not bound by honor or tradition, they reek of ambition and greed, consuming all that they touch. I spend my days creating, innovating, building airships that would touch the heavens. And at night, I gird myself for a war that feels inevitable.   These humans, they seek to upset the balance, to claim what is rightfully ours. They would drain the very essence of Kraykatyzate, devoid of any respect for its sanctity. Our laws, the social order we've meticulously established, they threaten to topple it all.   I urge you, my son, to stand vigilant against this growing menace. I have tried to instill in you the same distrust I hold for these creatures, for your safety, for our future. We have been the guardians of Crafton Cove, and it is our sacred duty to protect it from the human scourge.   Your father, H.P Crafton II

Letters from H.P Crafton III to Crafton IV and Crytezza

These are arguably the most disturbing of the Crafton Letters. H.P Crafton III, in his later years, became obsessed with the prophecy and the so-called "Anchor." His letters became increasingly nonsensical and erratic, filled with threats of violence against humans, fixation on the prophecy, and a future where the Crafton family reigned supreme, lording over a world drenched in human blood.   Letter from H.P Crafton III to Crytezza & HP the 4th
To Crytezza and Crafton IV,   My heirs, my blood, my legacy. Listen to your sire, heed the warning in the ink of this parchment. The human storm approaches. Soon they will rain upon us, seeking to rip from our grasp what is ours by divine right. Their insatiable greed knows no bounds. They have no respect for the gifts of Krayvuk.   The Anchor... it's the key... Krayvuk's heart, the ritual, the awakening. I've seen it, my children. The future shrouded in human destruction, their blood coursing through rivers that flow beneath our feet. The Anchor must be secured. Its power harnessed for the coming battle.   Distrust these humans. Fear them. They're not like us. They're not like us. They're not... they're... they're... The prophecy, it speaks of cities falling from the sky, an invasion of man. It speaks of a day when Craftons will rise, an iron fist in the heavens, reigning over rivers of human blood and fields of fallen skulls.   I see it... I see it... The Anchor... The Heart of Krayvuk... The Ritual... The Future... Rivers of blood... Sky falling... Cities rising... Crafton reigns... Crafton reigns... I see it... I see it...   Your father, H.P Crafton III

Legacy and Impact

The Crafton Letters remain an infamous part of Crafton family history, marking a period of extreme paranoia, racial bias, and controversial governance in Crafton Cove. These letters have led to significant social and political change, notably the opposition against the anti-human laws passed by H.P Crafton II.   The mysterious "Anchor" mentioned in the letters continues to puzzle historians and archaeologists, its true nature yet to be discovered. The letters have sparked numerous theories about the possible effects of Kraykatyzate, given the apparent descent into madness experienced by the successive generations of the Crafton family.   The Crafton Letters are a testament to the power of prophecy, fear, and hatred, documenting a troubled lineage that left a significant impact on Crafton Cove's history and its relationship with the rest of the human colonies. They remain a subject of study and intense debate among scholars, historians, and archaeologists alike.
