Tal'Gorran Oasis
Spanning between the T'Lalia coast and the furthest stretches of The City's suburbs is the Tal'Gorran Desert. Three hundred miles of nothing but sand and heat.
However, half-way between the verdant coast and the suburban sprawl of The City lays the Tal'Gorran Oasis, a frontier town that's more truck-stop than it is a settlement.
The residents are few and fiercely proud of their independence from The City. They make their living off of the thousands of convoys that travel through the Tal'Gorran Desert daily.
Demographics
The nomadic Goraeii make up the bulk of the populace of Tal'Gorran. Even after The Founding it took centuries for the Goraeii to abandon their nomadic ways. Though they've left their thousand-mile treks to history, they Goraeii still often go for months-long outings into the desert, bringing their lamtaques and hide-covered yurts to live as their ancestors did.
Entrepenuers and other seekers of fame or fortune from all walks of life also settled at the Oasis.
History
For millenia, Tal'Gorran has been a resting and meeting place for the nomadic Goraeii that caravaned between T'Lalia and the inner-kingdoms. Even today, the convoys that cross the desert daily often stop at Tal'Gorran for recharging, catching up on gossip, and "because it's always been that way."
Occasionally, spiritual people will make pilgrimages to Tal'Gorran following the old nomadic trails claiming the desert "cleanses and enlightens". Most residents consider them kooks, though they're not going to turn away the coin they bring.
Geography
Canyon Meadows is surrounded by tall buttes, canyons, and a dry arid landscape. Shifting sand-dunes surround the town threatening to swallow it in one of the many sandstorms that rage across the desert.
The town itself was founded on the remains of an old caravan watering hole. Tribes of Goreaii would tether their lamtaques to the cacti and refill their canteens at the natural burbling spring in the center of town.
