Personal history
Nalia became an orphan very early in her life, left in front of the orphanage with only a note that held her name at the age of 3. She would never find out what happened to her parents, nor why they left her like that. But because she was so young when she lost them, Nalia holds only short, vague memories of them, memories that mean very little to her.
The orphanage was part of a very poor section of the town, the establishment itself barely holding it together. Because of it, Nalia grew more out on the streets rather then under a roof, given no proper upbringing nor education. Often, the children of the orphanage were used to beg for money, sent of into dangerous alleys to collect and sometimes even steal. They were never put up for adoption and it rarely happened that a child was taken into a family, their often dirty appearance and no manners not making a good impression on any parents. And so, Nalia was bound to the orphanage up until she became 11.
At that age, on a day that played off like any other, Nalia went out to collect and steal, her target being a necromancer by the name Fletcher Enno, a man that looked out of place in a poor town like that, a foreigner that seemed lost wondering so carelessly about in the wrong alley - a perfect target. But unlike the many other people she stole from, he was different - he was intelligent, sharp and...cold.
So when Nalia went to steal the money pouch that swung on the man's belt, she got caught. Yet, instead of punishing her or turning her in, the man took pity on the state in which Nalia was, feeling that the world has done injustice to a girl that seemed too bright to steal and be hungry her whole life.
So, he took her in.
Education
At first, Fletcher didn't really know what to do with the girl now that he took her in, since it was a rather rash decision. He knew she needed to learn how to properly speak, as well as read and write, but beside that, Fletcher wasn't sure how to actually raise a child - after all, he knew very well he wasn't fit for the role of a father.
Soon enough though, as Nalia started to connect the many letter and words she was being taught, she would start showing interest for the vast collect of books, notes and scrolls that laid around in Fletcher's home. And even though many of them were often too heavy and too complicated for the young girl, she would still secretly read them and scribble her own notes on top of the valuable scripts.
So instead of having her run freely and rummage through his stuff as she liked, Fletcher made her his assistant, giving her the job of organizing, transcribing and archiving the many texts he would often bring home.
However, only reading and learning would soon prove to not be enough for Nalia. She wanted more. The hunger for knowledge grew every day, but so did the need to try some of the things out. It wouldn't be until she almost froze the whole house and destroyed his library that Fletcher finally gave in and, together with being his assistant, made her his apprentice as well. If anything, the role of a teacher fit him much more then the one of a father.
Accomplishments & Achievements
The Accursed Archive
By the age of 17, Nalia would have read every book Fletcher owned, including the ones that were from the forbidden section. She also emptied the local bookstore, where she spend most of her money Fletcher gave her, as well as loaned every book the town's library had to offer.
The days between Fletcher bringing something new home became longer and even though she begged him many times to take her with him on the next adventure, he would always turn her down, saying she was still too young and too inexperienced to join him.
So on the days Fletcher was gone, Nalia was left with nothing to do but dusting the many shelves and rearranging the books, yet again, this time perhaps alphabetically by the first letter on the first page.
But one day, Nalia noticed that something was off about a particular bookshelf. Someone who only saw that shelf a few times would say nothing has changed, but Nalia, who could by now pick the book she needed with her eyes closed, felt that something about it was different.
All books were in their rightful place, only it was that some of them stood just a bit more out and some more in, as if the ground trembled slightly, but only below this shelf - and Nalia knew it wasn't her that touched them and neither was it Fletcher. So to get to the bottom of this little mystery, Nalia would start taking the books off the shelf and inspecting it. But instead of finding a crooked shelf or a wondering mouse, the tiefling found something much more interesting - a hollow back.
In the place where usually the shelf's back stood lead on the wall, was now a black void through which Nalia could put her hand, the darkness swallowing up her limb as it went through. Fearless as she was, without sparing a thought, Nalia went through. And behind that veil of darkness would be where Nalia found the Accursed Archive, a place she, oh, so often dreamed about having - a place that held endless shelves, rows of books of every kind she never saw or read, and all of that, it was only hers...
Mental Trauma
Each time Nalia goes into the Accursed Archive, she returns a bit more damaged than the last time. But rather than physically damaged, which also can happen, she gets mentally.
The only thing is, Nalia isn't aware of the Archive's effect on her health, and frankly, even if she was, she wouldn't care - the greed for knowledge is just too strong. Still, consequences of visiting such place will slowly start to be shown on the surface, reflecting themselves as strange moments of behaviour where, those who know her, won't be able to recognize her.
