Blood Moon

Overview

The Blood Moon (which is basically a Lunar Eclipse), which appears every 50 years, is the basic belief for the Scholars of the Blood Moon that their god has gathered enough power to reach out and recive the blood of the unworthy.

Belief

Vurleyar is imprisoned in the moon by the Sun which had enough of their bloody endeavours. Vurleyar is bound by strong magic (not one of those of the Arcana Basics).   Vurleyar will return eventually when they have gathered enough blood - and so strength - to return to their beloved world of Koria. In the belief of the Scholars Vurleyar has created the humans (and not the Eternals) and they will lead them (again).   Against what? Of course against the infidels!

Looking forward

It is quite uncommon to look forward to a Blood Moon / Lunar Eclipse, but most of the Scholars and Blood Knights do, so they answer the call to arms, gather blood for their god and maybe, maybe it is this Blood Moon where Vurleyar will lead them again.   Other people - especially the citizens and soldiers of Pisocenia and the Druids of the Emerald Planes - are looking forward to the event of the Blood Moon for different reasons.   The citizens of Pisocenia fear the Lunar Eclipse. They are considered infidels by the Scholars of the Blood Moo and that hasn't changed when the Spiral appeared. So they probably get slain and enslaved, if not even worse. Which the soldiers try to prevent by intercepting the Blood Knights either directly at the border or let them come into the desert and ambush them with massive force.   The Druids on the other hand are looking forward to the march of the Blood Knights because sometimes an unexperienced leader leads them trough the Emerald Planes and they can attack the knights; they ultimately serve as fertilizer for the planes themselves.

'they ultimately serve as fertilizer for the planes themselves.' Terrifying.   I really like how different cultures/places have different reactions to the blood moon.

Oh, my Druids are basically deadly Ents. They only allow travelers and merchants to cross the Emerald Planes, armies can be decimated to next to nothing. :D   Thanks a bunch. Thought "Hm, looking forward to... out of joy or out of fear...?" :D

Cool and dark event! I wonder if there is an astronomical reason why the lunar eclipses happen so rarely in your world? Also, are the Blood Moons easily predictable, or do the people need to calculate when exactly it will happen?

Thank you.^^ 1) Yes, there is. I will cover this topic in one of the more chonky bois, when I'll go over the stars, moon(s?) and everything.
2) They were predictable at some point like people were unease, cats hiss at the moon, dogs stay up at night, Dragons would venture to other resting places. But since a few centuries you can calculate the day it will happen. Which is the reason the Blood Knights know when to march, Druids know when to feast and soldiers when to prepare and protect.
