In the taproom of the Council's Guesthouse, the party meets a half-elf of thjodanalfen extraction. Omaran finds her distasteful, but the rest of the party engages her in conversation. They learn she wants cover to travel to Saercumar to hunt vampires on behalf of the Gravemother. To do so, she is going to Apcotun to meet an airea who claims to be a native of the Plane of Air that traveled to Kornax via a portal last year. They agree to have her join the group and make plans to sail for Apcotun.

In the meantime, Omaran - suspicious of the new group member - visits the House of the Gravemother. He is somewhat surprised that the Judging Priest of Avul, Brother Lak, recognizes his title and order. He asks about Ivi and learns that the Assembly of Justice and Mercy holds Ivi in high regard; she is a Reaper, a particular type of holy person whose charge is to bring death to those who cheat the grave unnaturally. Omaran asks for advice on reconciling his cultural biases with this information. Brother Lak gently chides him, reminding the ancient elf that reality rarely matches the stories of traditional prejudices.
