Hold of Dhenbadir
The Dwarven Hold Kingdom of Dhenbadir has lasted through some of the worst moments in Dwarven history. In the beginning, the founding King, Straobrikic Blackaxe had conquered all of the Dhenbadir Mountains. Blackaxe built two massive hold-cities for his Dawi, and aimed to create Mountainhomes that could be rivaled by only Karak-Kadrin, the throne of the Dwarven High King.
The Dhenbadir mountains were not completely desolate, they were populated by Duergar, to which Hold King Blackaxe massacred them in droves. Dhenbadir's history comes from blood and war, when Hold King Blackaxe died, the Longbeards elected a new Hold King who sought to change, and to outshine the dark histories of the Kingdom. Hold King Edogg Beararmour was one of the most noble and honorable Hold Kings in the history of Dhenbadir. The Kingdom flourished, trade increased heavily with the surface nations of Daromin and Sevrinkar, the Dwarves had struck large deposits of Adamantine and Mithral, and immigrants were flooding in from Karak-Kadrin.
In more recent histories, the Dwarven Hold King had been thrown into chaos. The second hold-city was attacked from within by Duergar, and conquered. A new Duergar Iron King arose to oppose Dhenbadir, and named his realm Kaghdurahl. The Dawi of Dhenbadir slowly spent over a hundred years slowly rotting away, no new immigrants were coming, Dawi were not having as many children to replace the dying Longbeards, Hold King Khegnak Oakfoot had only one mission, to annihilate the Deurgar.
His bloodthirst would one day be his undoing. In 1102 DB after attempting to convince the Glade Guardians to commit genocide with a weapon of great and horrid power. When the Glade Guardians refused to do so, Oakfoot took matters into his own hands, enlisted every Dawi that could hold a weapon into the military and besieged Kaghdurahl. Hold King Oakfoot, and almost every one of his Dawi were massacred.
The Hold City fell under siege from a massive Duergar counterattack, led by the Mind Flayers that had controlled the Dawi Iron Kings, the walls and gates of Dhenbadir collapsed, and Duergar rushed the city. In their final moments of dire need, a hero came to their defense, and to the defense of the Glade Guardians. Through a stroke of luck of Divine Intervention, the fallen heroes who defended their city returned from beyond to defend it once more, the Duergar were obliterated and pushed into retreat, the city was safe.
In the coming months after the siege, High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer traveled to Dhenbadir to re-establish the Hold Monarchy and to assist in rebuilding the Hold. Today, the Dwarven Hold of Dhenbadir is returning to its old successes, trade has reopened, the Dwarven Runeway is open once more, and Quisalorian and Arcanian merchants, immigrants, and other travelers move through it at all hours.
