The Silver Tower of Ilynara

In the center of the Silver Empire stands the Silver Tower. A standing reminder of what the Alithanaran Elves had experienced and suffered to ensure that the Prime Material Plane would be kept eternally safe.

Purpose / Function

To serve as a focal point of the Winds of Magic, which through a continually cast ritual are bent and manipulated to reinforce The Veil, the protective barrier of magic that keeps all manner of evil at bay.

Alterations

The tower was once destroyed almost entirely in its physical form. It has since then been rebuilt, with Mithryl inlay and rebar to help keep its form much more difficult to destroy.

History

The Silver Tower's birth stems as far back as the War in Heaven. While the humans built Eldoria, a shining civilization, they kept their power and knowledge and cared little for gods' conflict. The Silver Elves of Alithanar wanted to help their father, they felt it in their duty as the firstborn children of Garenthar. The Phoenix King, Aenarion the Defender, beckoned his friend and closest ally Caledor Dragontamer to research any methods they could use to assist. While most of the Alithanaran forces had been dispatched and were openly battling Kormund's minions, the Phoenix King remained behind, and led the defense of his homeland.   Caledor was a mage far ahead of his time, many say he rivaled Myrddin of Eldoria. The credit for the Silver Tower goes completely to Caledor, but many scholar claim that Myrddin would speak to Caledor, and the two would share ideas and theories. Caledor was able to craft a powerful ritual spell that would draw and manipulate the Winds of Magic to create a small protective layer around the Prime Material, this would be known as the Veil. When Kormund discovered what the Elves were planning, he sent his most dangerous child to burn the Silver Empire, Tiamat. The Mother of Dragons led the charge as her children clawed and flew over the Gates of Alithanar, and charged Alvendar and the Silver Tower. Aenarion led the defense, and felled endless droves of dragons. Some say Aenarion faced Tiamat herself in single combat, and was able to stand his ground with the Sword of Khaine in hand.   Aenarion was the most accomplished warrior of his time, but even he could not stand against the vicious might of Tiamat. She mortally wounded him with her Blue head, in retaliation, Aenarion severed her Red-scaled head, and sent her fleeing. She charged her children with the final assault of the Silver Tower. Caledor and his Wizards held the ritual, while Aenarion and his men continued the defense, to their last breath. When Caledor had finished the ritual, the Winds of Magic pulled and bent to his very will. For but a moment, Caledor became one with the Winds of Magic, with a thought he banished Tiamat from the Prime Material. He knitted and crafted the Veil that would protect his world. For this, his sprit would forever be trapped to hold the ritual for all time.   It was only a few years after the creation of the Silver Tower that Kormund and Garenthar killed each other in battle, and without Kormund's endless power to protect them, many of his children were banished past the Veil, unable to pierce through. His Godly children still could, but kept an uneasy peace with the Prime Deities, not wishing to risk another War in Heaven, especially without their fathers to protect them or maintain the balance.   In 1102 DB, the Silver Tower would be in danger of collapse. The Dracolich Imrys led an army of breathtaking power over the gates of Alithanar, slaughtering and murdering every Elf he could find. In the final siege of Alvendar, Imrys charged the tower and shattered its physical form, and began draining the magics from it. In the North, the Glade Guardians, weakened from their first battle with Imrys, were without hope. The Everqueen Ilynara sacrificed the last pieces of magic within her to restore them to full strength, at the cost of her own existence. Ilynara's physical form turned to stone, and the Crown of the Everqueen had passed. The Glade Guardians led a massive counterattack and faced Imrys at the Silver Tower. With their ally Kas, they were able to wound and eventually kill Imrys, the Darkheart. With the Dracolich dead, the power slowly returned to a balanced state, and the world was safe once more from the evils beyond the Veil.
