Kaide
A legendary warrior
A Kaide, simply put, is a warrior who uses traditional combat (swords, bows, shields, etc.) in combination with the application of magic, be it for defensive, offensive or strategic purposes. Most kaides typically use an area of magic called Soul Magic, as its unpredictability allows an advantage in combat. It's also worth noting that, despite most using traditional combat, a purely magical based warrior can still count as a kaide.
There can only be two kaides at one time, as it is a high rank with much political influence that must be kept in check. Since the year X679, the two kaides have been Dimir Isral, and Aerodin Benelin.

Must have high levels of magical application and extensive combatant abilities. These can be gained from any place, and anytime. The current kaides and other royal council members will
Requirements
The kaide can be of any background, age, ethnicity or gender. There are no constraints on who kaides can be, as long as the qualifications are met with. It's worth noting that the younger the person is, the tougher it is to be appointed kaide. One must have proven their worth as a magic user and combat master.
Appointment
The two current kaides and the royal council will judge the person. This can be taken in over time, records and reports, and often tests/trials that are set up to test different aspects of the kaide. If one kaide has perished or is unavailable, the remaining kaide will judge the person themselves with the royal council.
Duties
A kaide must:
Be aware and updated on all military activities
Provide protection to the Raziel kingdom and other villages
Take part in any royal council hearing they are called to / relevant to
Focus on the defeat of specific enemy groups (cults, factions, terrorists, individual dangers)
Battle any enemy too difficult/powerful for the military
Responsibilities
A kaide must, on a day-to-day basis:
Continuously train and improve traditional combat and magic skills
Research and track down any active enemies relevant to the kingdom
Benefits
A temple at the top of Kaide Mountain is provided as (optional) living quarters, giving the kaides access to a library containing the history of factions and the kingdoms of Iridel, as well as training facilities, a monastery, personal studies and more.
All active kaides are offered pay they can use to support themselves and their families. While not incredibly high amounts of pay, they do lift one to the upper-middle class from the lower.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Kaides are provided with armor crafted from the toughest metal on Iridel - galladium. The armor has a white, marble color and texture to it, with black accenting. The armor is lightweight, and can be crafted to the specific needs of the kaide wearing it.
Kaides are given sufficient weapons and utility items they need, and are repaired if damaged.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
If a kaide is inactive, abuses their political/military power, or causes harm more than benefits, they can be demoted down to a basic mage or knight position. Or, if voted on by the council, they can be removed from the military entirely and placed under surveillance.
If a kaide has decided to quit, they must give a 6 months notice to the council, who will seek out a qualifying replacement kaide. Afterwards, they are sent off to retirement.
If a kaide has been met with death, a replacement kaide must be sought out by the royal council immediately.
History
The Legend of Kaidus, believed to have been true then, was the basis of the creation of this rank. Evidently, given that kaide is a derivative of the name Kaidus, those appointed are expected to serve the role Kaidus had served in the Gartherean Civil War, only to the people and to peace.
Cultural Significance
Kaides are often seen as the heroes, the face and vision of the power and what the Raziel military is.
Notable Holders
Kaidus, the first kaide who saved what is now Iridel from defeat in the Gartherean Civil War, and who shifted the tectonic plates by each faction, creating Iridel itself.
Dimir Isral, who was kaide for 35 years straight, the longest there has ever been.
