Malice in Wonderland
General Summary
May 21st
Procella, Kingra, Yev, Ironfinger
Ironfinger had made contact with the party and expressed interest in providing his services in exchange for learning more about the arcane and mystical. While discussing details about his new position within the party, a flustered Dabbledob made his presence known via the newly installed dimensional loop installed in Fastandia's Mansion. He requested the presence of Procella back in Goblin Manor. With company in tow, they return to the Manor to find C351SL, Dabbledob and Fibblestib working away on the narrative device, along with a demure looking Ophelia.
After some explanation from the pair of gnomes, it appears that they had an idea on how to return Ophelia to her home world by recalibrating the magic regulator of the Narrative Device, unfortunately there calculations were off due to the new irradiated crystal that had recently been incorporated into the device, as such the machine malfunctioned and exploded with arcane energy, knocking the party unconscious.
Upon waking up they noticed that the world outside of the windows of the Manor was nothing but a black void and ethereal technicolor shapes. After trying to gather there barrings, the moment was interrupted by Hazel, who wordlessly removed a component from one of the chairs of the narrative device and made a dash to the dimensional loop leading back to the mansion. Kingra was able to successfully tangle her before she made it to the portal, but the vines of the spell were sentient and Hazel was able to convince the vines to free her as she was on an important mission for an important individual. The party gave chase through the portal after the Harengon.
Kingra, being quick with his wits is able to track Hazel and quickly leaves the Mansion with the others in tow. Outside they found a black void, with the only path forward being made of technicolored sand that spiraled and defied the laws of physics. After a brief interaction with a phasing feline, they found themselves at a crossroads that branched off in multiple directions. After following the trail of Hazel, and overcoming a beachside puzzle, the party found their way to the court of the queen, the one who tasked Hazel with stealing the piece of the Narrative Device, which was refered to as the "Doohickey".
The party requested a meeting with the queen in an attempt to get back the Doohickey. Upon meeting the flamboyant and narcissistic queen, they learned that the queen was obsessed with a mirror that had been destroyed and she wanted the reality warping effects of the Doohickey in order to recreate the mirror, with this information Procella deduced that this was the same mirror that she was responsible for destroying. The party was then challenged to a game of croquet for a chance to earn the queen's favor. Unfortunately, after attempting to cheat a few too many times and not getting past the watchful eye of the guards, the queen decided to task the party with single handedly defeating the Jabberwok that protected the mirror she was pining for.
Before the queen can escort them to their mission, the interdimensional cat points their attention towards a side room of the castle, with Yev and Kingra providing a distraction the other two were able to investigate and found a room displaying many magical items. Hastily gathering what they think they could get away taking, Procella and Ironfinger return with newly aquired gear going unnoticed. With that accomplished, they followed the queen to the mirror room, where she re-summoned the mirror using the Doohickey, revealing a courtyard of marble on the other side of the mirror.
The party entered the world of the mirror where they engaged the Jabberwok that was slumbering on a watchtower, springing a surprise on the creature they were able to put the beast in dire straights quickly, but the monster was able to stave off death since the party didn't use the proper means to slay it. Due to this, Ironfinger found himself on the receiving end of creatures ire. With the combined efforts of the whole party, the Jabberwok was decapitated. After looting some cursed gear from the corpses from the surrounding area, the party returned to the queen. Upon exiting the mirror, it reversed to a normal state and the queen revealed that she merely wanted it as a reflective surface with which to look at herself, and returned the Doohickey to the party.
With their goal accomplished the group returned to Goblin Manor and returned the missing piece to the gnome siblings, allowing them to reverse the effects of the device and return the library to its former state. Dispelling the effects of the narrative world that they found themselves in, with all the items they gathered still with the party due to them acquiring them on their native plane of existence. With all returned to normal the Dabbledob makes note that with this experiment behind them, they believe that they now have to knowledge to be able to return Ophelia to her own narrative if she ever so chose to do so.
