rock troll

Basic Information

Anatomy

The rock troll are quite the beast, of 2 to 3 meters tall at final, but flexed on their knees, very round, their hardened skin is covered in calcite and other minerals, giving them a natural carapace. They have bulky feet with slightly differentiated toes, and big hands with an opposed but rigid thumb. (only four digits for all)

Biological Traits

There is not a lot of difference between male and female except for genitals; there's not really any difference between any troll at all, except for the naturally generated mineral shell. There is also a variant in the high mountains where the stone is covered with ice, in which case they are called frozen trolls.

Genetics and Reproduction

Six month of gestation for one to three little trolls, but no breastfeeding, directly on hard meat (or stone). Otherwise, they have a cycle alike lot of mammals.

Growth Rate & Stages

Troll grows in three to five years, and start naked and tender, and develop their leather with time, then the mineral carapace develop itself as they stay in caves, or learn to create one themselves.

Ecology and Habitats

Mostly caves in low or high mountains, with a lot of rocks and some trees. They eat some minerals and use wood to create primitive tools. they sometimes invade abandoned dwarven mines.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They eat meat (fishes and random mammals with traps; rarely birds and egg.) and a lot of minerals through direct rock eating (their teeth and jaws being adapted to chew the most fragile minerals like calcite or haematite). They started using fire to grill meat, but since they started stealing stuff from dwarves, often boil random things as soups with cauldrons (sometime even clothes).

Biological Cycle

They became diurnal, but in distant past they were nocturnal, and were hibernating. Nowadays, they live by the Dwarven occupation, looting in rubbishes and attacking cattle. They are slower in winter, and get less often outside, but stopped hibernating. In the day they wander aimlessly or try creating new things, and hunt at dawn and dusk.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They often live in little groups (three to five) in the same cave, or alone.

Domestication

Troll were domesticated and enslaved to become either workforce or fight force. It is now illegal to capture them, and must now have the troll's consent. The biggest alteration issued from that is that trolls developed sapience, and are now more diurnal than they were before, and lost their hibernation habit.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Troll being extremely Powerful, they are often used for simple and repetitive work, especially in mine; or as war beast, as they are also extremely resistant. In the past, humans and dwarves organised troll fights, or prisoner vs. troll fights, if the prisoner sentenced to death killed the troll or survived for ten minutes he was released (which never happened, the world record is 8 minutes and 35 seconds). Fighting a troll with your bare hands is one of the events of the Rhodes school.

Facial characteristics

Big long nose, small eyes, pustules, chunked misaligned teeth, small ears.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They live in mountains, mostly the pyrean, and the small mountains of Septrial, and more rarely in Oriaka.

Average Intelligence

They are sapient, able to learn languages but do not have their own, able to create tools from branches and rock, and can learn to use simple elnumel's tools, and craft traps to catch bunnies.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have strong smell, a good hearing and vibration perception, and have supposedly correct vision, but only in green tint and seemingly not as far as a common human would.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Simple names, no more than two syllables. Easy to pronounce and remember.

History

After being enslaved by dwarves and orks, Trolls became intelligent and capable of speaking, tool crafting and working on simple tasks. Since then, instead of creating their own language, learnt to speak a really simplified Alkalian, using sometime some Meridian words.
