The Capital-Class Defensive Bombardment Howitzer of the Nefadric Empire is a large calibre, fixed artillery piece that lobs an explosive shell in an flexible arc at the enemy.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

When loaded with a gunpowder charge and a explosive shell the Defensive Bombardment Howitzer sends shots high into the air to plunge down on a target (and over anything in the way). By angling the barrel and changing the propellant charge used, these howitzers have an impressive flexibility in shell trajectories. The experienced crews of the third regiment of the Aodian Capital Guard Legion can lob explosive shells and incendiary rounds with great accuracy into a “kill zone”, making life utterly miserable and very short for anyone within it. In close action, they can fire canister rounds directly into enemy formations. The fragments forcefully expelled from the canister claim many lifes due to thier spread and thus area of effect. Those that survive are likely to flee in terror at the horrific sight of devestation caused by such an attack.

While Howitzers are already rare and only used by the Nefadric Empire, this varriant, the Capital-Class Defensive Bombardment Howitzer is unique to the nefadric capital Aodios and the costal defence line of Port Phantymas.
There are two reasons for this, firstly, hauling even the large calibre projectiles required for battle is simply to impractical for an army. Not to speak of the artillery itself, which is way to heavy for any cart and readily available beast of burden. Secondly, the Howitzer needs to be fixed to a custom firing platform that absorbs the recoil and requires heavy machinery to aim the weapon in a timely manner. So even if this large howitzer was hauled to battle, a construction team would need to improvise a firing plattform, which is flat out not possible. Thus the Capital-Class Howitzer remains a purely defensive weapon.
