In the hands of a dull man, the sharpest blade becomes blunt. But, in the hands of a sharp man, the dullest blade becomes deadly.

Sun Zhan was born in the year 296 PC to a small family up in the mountain springs at Xuexuanwo (Monastery of the Mountain). Growing up into the life of a hermit, Zhan was well received by his unusually wise line of thought. His calmness put others at ease. His trickery with weapons training left others always guessing.   Even as a young man, travelers from settlements even as far as the Kong kingdoms would come to visit to look for his sage advice, guidance believed to come from the Dragon of Order himself. In the time just after the start of the Xinjiang Rebellion, Guan Yishe, during his campaigns, visited Xuexuanwo in search of Zhan. He took the scholar on as Prince Adviser, and Sun Zhan left the monastery for the first time in his life as he aided in Yishe's strategic conquest of the land.   Over the course of the campaign, Zhan composed many different written words of military wisdom that, later on, were compiled into the Zhanwushu (The Divine Book of Militaries) at the onset of the Guan Dynasty. He died of old age in 215 PC and was buried at Xuexuanwo with a shrine erected in his honor. When, Yishe, the first emperor died years later, he requested to be buried alongside Zhan, and it was so.   Ever since, the Zhanwushu has been one of the most popular pieces of writing throughout the land for any scholar or philosopher to study for its perfect analysis over military strategy.

A man of wisdom, who can find but in Sun Zhan? In him, wisdom and strength are wedded together in faithful union, such that should he have not gone with me that day from that quiet monastery, for every victory I found, two more defeats would follow.
