Crimson Domain
Formally known as the "Mystic Isle", this once amazingly beautiful island is now a living active supervolcano. Adventurers and explorers alike are warned about coming here due to the island being a violent firestorm of brimstone, lava, ash and toxic gasses. All living life has long since burned away, and the land super heated and warped into a razor with jagged black rock with glass like qualities. The air is polluted with dangerous fumes coming from both the volcano and the deep fissures scattered across the island.
The unpredictable nature of the island hosts weather anywhere from barely breathable to almost safe, with firestorms, ash storms, earthquakes, or raining brimstone that scar the land further. These conditions have made it challenging to properly map the island. Those that do return often bear the brand of the inhospitable landscape.
Ancient history tells stories of this island being a lush and vibrant home of the most beautiful plant life in the lands. The great mages of the time came here to build a grand city of bronze and glass using all of their magical skills. In the middle of this breathtaking city stood the mage tower which could be seen from miles around as the peak split the clouds. The island became a magical paradise of wonder for those seeking knowledge, learning and the magical arts. The world's largest library was also home here as knowledge was one of the central focuses of those that lived and studied here as students.
It was said that the Sorceress Queen was the most beautiful woman in the land without comparison, causing men to fall in love with her at the mere sight of her beauty. Shortly after the arrival of strange looking red sailed ships, the Wizard King became prone to jealous fits of rage. His once calm and peaceful demeanor was replaced with uncontrollable jealousy which led him to madness. The King started to hear false whispers, the Queen leaving him to marry a young duke from across the great ocean and planning the King’s assassination so that they could take over the island for themselves.
The Wizard King used the forbidden dark arts to hastily summon a shadow creature to take revenge upon his wife. During this summoning something went horribly wrong, and the summoning spell started to grow more powerful. The king, losing control of this spell, tried to flee the tower, but the spell continued to grow in strength. The spell took on a life of its own, sucking the life force from everything in the area to power itself. The spell then exploded with devastating force, collapsing the entire tower into the ground and killing all those within it. As people watched in horror, a giant demon pulled itself from the wreckage of the tower. People screamed in fear turning to run away, yet the mighty demon laughed as red fire shot from his four eyes setting everyone ablaze.
The demon, laughing loudly, burnt anything and everything inside the city. The air became a thick, black, and heavy haze with the stench of burning flesh, ash and smoke. The dreadful choir of people screaming as they were burnt to death filled the air with a melody of despair. Over half of all life on the island was killed within that first hour of the demon appearing. The remaining magic users escaped, regrouped, and acted in pure desperation; they too decided to use the forbidden dark arts to get rid of this demon before they became human matchsticks to the inferno. They knew all too well that this giant demon would not just stop here; it would attack the mainland as well as burning all life into ashes.
Combining all their magical energies together, they performed the most unholy of dark art spells… the Spell of Uncreation. Not being experienced in the dark arts, they failed to take the necessary protective measures and the spell misfired. A huge pulsating ball of purple glowing light went flying through the air striking the demon. It howled in agonizing pain and used its last foul breath to curse the spell itself. As the demon slowly disintegrated, laughing to the very end with pained breaths, the purple pulsating spell ball started to spin faster, now glowing a bright red light shooting straight up into the air, passing through the clouds then halting before flying quickly back down. It struck the ground with such a powerful force that what was left of the city was vaporized upon impact. Minutes later the mages could hear a loud rumbling coming from deep underground, and shortly after a massive volcano exploded from the ground.
It was not long before all life on the island was destroyed. Even the ships that were trying to flee out to the ocean were stuck down with the raining volcanic rocks of brimstone and hellfire. Within days, the waters boiled around the island. All life was burnt away, and the island itself changed into a burning landscape of hell. Even today you can still see the red glow of the volcano from the mainland as it continues to erupt.
