Imperial Mine
In the beginning, many mine entrances were built and dug here but over time they were sealed up except for the one entrance which is now always watched and guarded. The mine tunnels travel for miles in every direction and run deep under the mountain range. Here you will find gold, silver, gems and other precious minerals.
Any that are sentenced to prison or labor retribution are held here. The upper part of the mines is those working for merger wages at best. They are those that for whatever reasons are unable to work elsewhere to earn a living. Working in unsafe conditions, under the watchful eye of the guards, with unrealistic schedules and always overworked.
The deeper level of the mine is where the prisoners are kept, they spend six hours per day in a filthy tiny cell then work eighteen-hour shifts. Survival rate of this Imperial prison is low and for good reason. You will find the worst of the worse here in this brutal labor camp.
Everything is always under lock and key at all times with extremely tight security in place. There is long stone bridge that goes to the only mine entrance, no windows and no air vents. Only one entrance between the lower levels and the upper levels. Normally guards are sent here as punishment or to learn a dire lesson so much of them have quickly developed bad attitudes for being sent here.
Entering or leaving requires up to date documents, searches, inspections and random verifications. Including casters using magic to see anything hidden, clerics detecting dishonesty and magic items used to tell the truth. Shipments only leave the mine once per week, always at different times and different days with the information only known to a select few.
Drunken miners had been overheard telling tales of the deepest mining shaft being closed off and now under very heavy guard. A few patrols have been sent in, but none have returned, to which they built a thick stone wall with a metal gate to close it off.
