The Dark Continent

Written by Agent Serro

The Dark Continent is somewhat a mystery, not because of the lack of information but because of the overabundance of rumors. Go to any town or inn asking about this mysterious continent and you will soon hear more than a few different rumors. It's difficult to separate fact from faction when it comes to this land. As not many that venture there ever return back, only the mightiest and bravest of adventurers would come here willing.   Even with the lack of having an official banner, crest or insignia to represent it. It’s a lawless place with no ruling class and no government at all, almost in a primal state. Other kingdoms have tried to send representatives to this land in order to negate treaties but none of them have ever returned. No civilizations or at least no evidence but rumors speak of a race of quick-tempered ape men then of dark-skinned humanoids welding blood magic and strange curses known to eat their own kind.   The entire continent is thickly covered with an incredibly dense jungle. Which makes land travel challenging and slow, then there are the enormous creatures that live within this untamed jungle. Of course, there is the rumors of wingless dragons all shapes and sizes, giant insects, house size creatures, reptiles of every kind imaginable and some unimaginable. If the creatures don’t eat you, then the jungle itself will as there is rumors of carnivorous plants, vines that will suck your blood and trees that shallow your soul. Only thing worse than the jungle and its creatures are the vile soulless blood magic cannibalistic savages that are the inhabitants of the jungle.   About 40 years ago, the great Empire set a large mass of troops to start claiming more territory and resources as they are normally due. To this day not one single solider has ever returned, not one single piece of equipment was ever found, even the war ships went missing. Since this incidence, the Empire avoids the continent all together with no intentions of returning without the full extent of their military.   There are hidden ruins, lost temples and scared areas to find here. Almost any artifact or relic brought back from the Dark Continent fetches a nice price on the open market due to how incredibly rare they are. Collectors will pay more for the right items for their precious collections. For those that are a little shadier, the ever-rare blood ruby that can only be found here is a hot selling item on the black market.
