War of the Infested

After the new land was found and settled, there came to be the world's greatest war which quickly turned into a world war. This war killed about 70% of all life killed off including plants, mammals, fish, insects and all life in general in this world. It is not clear on how it started or where it started but some records indicate it was a small village in the mountains that found a meteorite which had fallen from the skies above. The villagers, being unaware of the danger, brought this shiny meteorite into their village where it was put on display in the village square as a reward from their Gods.
Unknown to the villagers within this metal sphere was the most dangerous bioengineered weapon to be made. Its origins are unknown, the technology is unknown, and most records were destroyed in the great war. Shortly after the item was placed inside the village, its villagers started to get very sick, so the current kingdom of the time sent healers in order to help them. One of these healers was heavily involved in illegal research to further the cause of medicine and technology. After he soon realized that the meteorite was indeed handmade and not neutral, he had it contained and brought back to his laboratories for studies. Being able to use lost tech, the researchers found this metal sphere filled with an unknown virus to the likes they have never seen before. Keeping it inside of containment they proceed to research and experiment as their type always does.
Once the government science division found out about this, it was quickly seized, and the researchers were never seen again. Within a black ops warfare division lots of money was spent on trying to weaponize this deadly virus. Through testing of live subjects, they were able to determine that the virus was quick to spread from person to person. First starting signs were a simple mild cold but within 48 hours causing the victim to collapse from exhaustion as their insides were liquefied with death within 72 hours. After 120 hours, the virus would run its life cycle and simply die off. This gives them grand ideas of killing off entire kingdoms and then a week later they would just walk in and take everything over.
It did not take long before this weaponized virus was loaded into bombs, put aboard airships and then used to drop over the top of a local kingdom that was threatening to go to war with them. At first everything was going according to plan, within 24 hours roughly 80% of their population were showing signs of a common cold. Soon afterwards within the second day, scouts and spies started to send in strange and terrifying reports of nightmarish creatures attacking people in the same kingdom. What was not known to the ones releasing the virus onto this kingdom was that the Necron Order was in leadership. They were performing dark necromantical experiments on many people here with numerous different research, technology and vile experiments.
As the virus infected one of the people that was experimented upon, the virus had a chain reaction mutation that altered it into something completely different. A stronger, deadlier virus that would merge with its host both mutating together to become a new living lifeform that would then go forth to infect others. Within the first week, the entire kingdom had fallen, and the virus infected all living life within the kingdom. It would appear that the virus could not only infect humanoids but also plants, animals, insects and all life as we know it. The invading kingdom realizing the danger, sent all of their armies to surround the infected kingdom to prevent the virus from spreading. Within 4 days, every member of these armies was infected and mutated, only doubling the number of the infected. By this time reports made it to other kingdoms of what was going on as a great number of infected were now wandering outwards in random directions infecting any life it came across adding to their rapidly growing numbers.
Within a month, the small continent was lost to the infected. Other kingdoms banned all travel to this continent, sinking any ships that tried to approach their harbors and paranoia soon overtook the world. People were being executed and bodies being burnt in the streets simply because someone sneezed in public. During this time every kingdom had their laboratories, research divisions, medical departments and any one with understanding of advanced technology working around the clock for a cure. Some kingdoms wanted to cure it and save everyone, other kingdoms built weapons of mass destruction to eliminate the threat and some tried to find magical means to end the threat.
Just as everyone was confident that the infection would not leave that small continent, six months later a fisherman’s family became infected and then in a different part of the world a bird trainer was infected by the virus. At eight months, half of the world was infected as the other half of the world desperately did anything they could to stop the spread of the infection. The world became chaotic, no place was safe, and family killed family without a second thought. During this time the sleeping God stirred from his slumber due to the high amounts of negative energy in the world. As he was starting to awake, his psychotic aura spread madness throughout the world at the same time. As the number of infected became more and people became less, the negative energies started to drop as the infected do not give off positive or negative energy.
During this time in history the infected and the madness from the sleeping god spreading was a war that lasted hundreds of years. It became a chaotic madness war of survival, weapons and magic were used to kill thousands at once. Technology went deep into mass destruction, horrible machines were built, weapons of enormous power used without thought to effects and during this time entire cities were laid to waste. Libraries burnt, technology destroyed, bloodlines ended, rational thinking stopped all together and the world became one large battlefield.
Near the end, the Mazoku and the Shinzoku finally agreed to work together because if the infected took over everything, there would be no positive or negative energies in the world meaning both sides would die off. Working together, they were able to gain the attention of The Golden Mother of Darkness. Being an entity of pure neutrality, she had no feelings and no cares of what was going on but the fact that the negative and the positive side came together as one intrigued her interest for a moment in time. On a whimsical notion, she spent a total of 8 seconds giving 1% of her attention to this world. The sun became blocked out as the world was covered in one thunderstorm; the entire world was drenched in healing rains, but the rain continued non-stop for 33 days causing most of the world to flood destroying everything that survived the world war.
Upon the 34th day, the skies finally cleared revealing a world destroyed by war and by flooding. By some miracle, 33% of all life survived with no signs of any of the infected surviving at all. The small groups of the different races set out upon the permanently changed world that was left behind. Having no technology, no tools, no written information had to revert back to being primitive in nature as life once again was reset back to the very beginning. The survivors named the 34th day of the storm, year zero and started to keep track of time once again.
Now in the year 8351 A.I. (after infection) history is all about forgotten, the rare legend of a world flood that everyone believes to be some folk story that was made up. As all records, books, machines, technology and any signs of civilization were wiped away from the world. Most educated people believe that the calendar was simply started once people learned how to read and write making it year zero. Of course, the universe always has expectations, there has been in fact a few warforged uncovered, a handful of artifacts did survive and have been discovered. The three original races due to their extremely long life spans due in fact have some understanding and knowledge of not only the war of the infested but even before then back to the beginning before the other races were made. One thing that did survive is all races being nervous and superstitious of any sort of technology, this fear has been simply passed down from generation to generation.
