Whispering Shores

Written by Agent Serro

Whispering Shores - Named for the soft whispering sounds generated by the near magical waves, this beautiful, sandy beach is beloved by vacationers and shell connoisseurs alike. One of the many attractions of this beach are the exquisite and rare shells that it produces. Some say the shells are enchanted because they have a way of shimmering and changing colors even when light is minimal. Jewelry made from these shells is highly sought-after, and people will travel for miles just to collect them.
Jewelers and crafters will pay for shells collected from these shores. Depending on the color clarity and intensity of the light, a person could make a fair profit for each unique shell. The ones that hum or whisper are especially valued.
Ranging in size, these intriguing shells have baffled beach enthusiasts for years. One wizard hypothesized in a local publication that they are merely regular shells, but some unknown magical energy from the vast, deep ocean changes them somehow, making them almost iridescent.
Turbulent storms and tumultuous waters bring the larger shells to the shore. The beach floods with collectors after any major storm - all looking for that rare find. It is a local tradition to scour the beach after a storm and the neighboring areas empty onto the beach for this festive event. Because of the underwater current and unique shoreline, many things wash up on this beach. Everything is used and salvaged; nothing is wasted. By the end of the event, which is typically less than an hour or two, the beach is back to its normal pristine beauty.
Whispering Shores is known for more than mesmerizing shells. Merchant sailors and locals alike tell of a ship that sails without her crew and seems to float above the water as it eerily passes the shore. Often seen from the Forsaken Keep, this ephemeral ship can only be seen on crystal clear nights when the moons are bright. Although there are no official reports of the ghost ship, many skeptics claim that it is probably just the gnome ships from S.E.N.D.E.R and the rumors were started by locals that did not have a better use of their time. Only those that have visited this lovely coast will know the truth.
