A Lesson in Duality

As the children departed to the old man's hut, Asaag and Shaze let out the barest breath of relief.   "They don't remember. I suppose there's some stock in memory altering magic after all." Shaze turns to Asaag with a wry smile, "If those two had remembered our encounter, I don''t know if we could have kept them so quiet this time."   Asaag grimaced in response, "And now they're working with Derrick. If they make the climb to the temple, we'll have to deal with them again. You know we shouldn't have let them live the first time, it's too risky."   "You're so cold, Asaag. They were only children." Shaze's mock surprise was followed by a beam of pride at her pun, "Besides, if they can make the climb, perhaps they will succeed where we failed last time. We lost enough of our own in that godsforsaken deathtrap, let them give it a shot, and if they succeed, we'll improvise a plan."   Asaag's gimace deepened, "You know how I hate improvising."
