Demographics

Kenkanai is predominantly populated by beastfolk, including crow people (called Tengu) and fox people (called Kitsune), among others. Traditional Ashiaran custom here has lead to structures that accent the natural landscape, rather tan altering it to be more suitable to building. Visitors will often find temples dedicated to ancestral spirits, and shrined that honor various nature deities.

Government

The town is primarily governed by a city council, comprised of the most esteemed members of the community, thought by the commonfolk to be paragons of wisdom and leadership, with a deep understanding of Ashiaran customs and traditions. This couincil is an advisory body, which offers guidance on the most significant matters relating to the town and its people.

The magistrate is appointed by the council and serves as their chief executive officer, responsible for overseeing much of the town's administration. They preside over council meetings, finalize the implementation of policies and directives, and serve as the primary liaison between the people and governing body.

The town also maintains a judicial system, overseen by judges appointed directly by the council. They mediate and arbitrate legal disputes over formal hearings, often acting as a reference to established law and precedent.

Points of interest

Cherry Blossom Gardens

The primary tourist attraction in the city is the coastal cherry blossom garden, where visitors can stroll along winding, natural pathways adorned with the blooming trees. During spring, when the blossoms are in full bloom, the gardens become a breathtaking sea of pink petals.
