Clip
Fast, feathery fighting mounts
As your party and the crowd mutters in awe, royal messengers on clips with lavish plumage dash past you on their journey, confirming in their announcement that "the giants have emerged! They have returned from their watery thrones to deliver us an Assurance!"
Hunting creatures that are voracious social predators out in the wilds of Bralis, but have been domesticated in the past by the Dragonborn and since then have spread throughout the world as battle mounts or message carriers. They are easily recognized by their tall, lean stature and featherless, toothy faces.
Basic Information
Anatomy
These animals are bipedal with a long, horizontal body whose tail ends in a puffy plume of feathers. They have a pair of wings that are too small to be used for flight, but boast dazzling patterns.
Ecology and Habitats
Although most know this creature in its domesticated form, wild clips were found all throughout flatlands in Bralis, from the ice plains to the Vasts. The tundra variety were usually more thickly feathered to deal with their local climates, but the Southern varieties and most modern breeds have much less down.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Clips are obligate carnivores creatures, so feeding is the highest cost for their care.
In the wild they hunt prey larger than themselves in packs and so they usually like to eat socially.
Additional Information
Domestication
The domesticated clip has a slightly smaller stature than its wild counterpart. They are used as hunting companions, battle mounts, herders, and even messenger's mounts but they can become violent and destructive so they are not a great house pet. In fact, caring for a clip is so difficult that to own them is often a sign of status. There are a variety of fancy breeds with artful plumage that are carefully groomed for shows that are popular among the extremely wealthy.
Clips can have many colors of plumage, from pure white to spotty to striped brown.
