Battle of Nedev

The Battle for Nedev was fought 27 years ago on the rocky promitory overlooking the confluence of the Kelang and XXXXXX rivers. Before the founding of the Barony of Nedev and its namesake town, the lands that it now occupies were under the control of the Red Blade Goblin tribe and thier masters, the XXXXX Hobgoblins. The rocky promitory was the location of the Red Blades cheiftain and his most powerful shamans and is considered sacred ground to the tribe.   The Red Blades camp was set at the highest point of the promitory, wtih a wooden palisade, and one watch tower near the gate. The Red Blades had no other permanent structures, and all of thier tents where enclosed by the palisade walls. The gate itself was really only a log barricade that could be moved to the side to allow passage. The rivers, and the cliffs, protected the flanks of the camp.   When Lord Nedev and the fifty members of his expeditionary force first scouted the goblin camp, they realized that a frontal assualt, while possible, would likely result in a large loss of life as goblin archers and shamans would be able to cut them down as they charged up the slope to the palisade and gate. Lord Nedev came up with an alternate plan which involved floating down the river on rafts under cover of darkness, and then climbing the cliffs ot catch the goblins from behind. He ordered ten of his band to approach the palisade asa distraction, but to keep out of range of the weapons until the goblins were hit from behind.   Lord Nedev and the rest of his force floated down the river, and was able to land at the base of the promitory unseen, and then their best climbers scaled the cliffs, and lowered ropes to the others. Once they started up the ropes, a signal was sent to the distractionary force to begin. When the goblins rushed to the palisades to repel what they thought of as the main attack. Lord Nedev and the main force slipped into the camp and quietly began approaching the palisade from the inside. Once it became clear to the goblins that the enemy was within the camp, they all but abandoned the palisade and started fighting the invaders, this gave the ten members of the force outside the camp the opportunity to rush the gate and join the battle.   The battle did not last long once begun, as the goblins had about the same numbers, but Lord Nedev's forces had surpise and were able to quickly eliminate the shamans and the goblin cheiftain, and the rest of the goblins broke and ran.
