Jarl

The rank of Jarl is the second level of hereditary titles recognized in some parts of Kyrn. It ranks above Baron and below Marchon in the order of precedence, and is equivalent to Count or Earl. Jarl is also gender neutral, so the title applies to both male and females. Jarls are addressed as "Jarl", and "Your Lordship". The title of Jarl is usually won through victory in battle, or through personal combat with the current Jarl.  In the lands that use Jarl, the title is not hereditary, although the children of Jarls are often considered for the position, one must prove their merit in some way to be accepted as the new Jarl  The spouse of a Jarl is given the honorific title of Jarl.
