Adventurers: Tellum, Sazerac, Stor, Xindge23rd day of Rababtide, 12th Year of the Reign of Empress Sorsasta, 5728
So Sazerac and Xinge come back to town and hang out at the Juggling Jester, drinking and wondering what our next move might be. We were joined by Tellem, a paladin and Stor, a fighter. We drink some more and then head in for the evening, with the group deciding to return to the hidden shrine of Thoko, goddess of Death in the woods and find Artin Corby, and his monster bride, Tarazara.
24th day of Rababtide, 12th Year of the Reign of Empress Sorsasta, 5728
Early the next morning we head out to the house and the paladins are still keeping watch. We head back into the woods to the hideout. We activate the statue of the goddess Thoko. We notice activity going in and out via footprints. We head back in. We go back into the large room with the pillars and go to the opposite end from where we encountered the skeletons last time. Another room with a stage and a throne on the stage. Sazerac drops a bonfire in the middle of the room to see what’s in there and we see another door. No secret doors, Tellem goes to investigate the throne. The door, which was cracked open, closes. Xinge investigates the throne, then sees everyone converging on the door and joins them. Sazerac opens the door and we head footsteps retreating from us in the distance. As Sazerac passes through the archway, a blade slices out towards him. It his him, ouch. Xindge heals him. Tellem disables the blade and we move on. We come to a room with pillars. The pillars open to disgorge one skeleton apiece. We endeavor to destroy them. Tellem destroys the one nearest us. Stor moves to engage the next one in line. He misses his strike. The skeletons move to engage us. Three move to engage Stor. Two of them fail spectacularly and the third just misses. One skeleton drops its weapon. The one attacking Sazerac misses. Xindge destroys the one with the crossbow with his guided bolt spell. Sazerac attacks the spear-wielding skeleton and Tellem takes a poke with his longsword and scores some damage. Stor wields his swords and batters his skeleton with them. Stor gets scratched by the skeleton who dropped its weapon. Sazerac gets attacked and missed. Tellem is attacked and missed. Xindge dusts another skeleton with his spell. Tellem missed the lone surviving skeleton and Stor hits that skeleton, turning it to dust. This endeth the combat. Xindge heals Stor. Sazerac illuminates the room with a bonfire to reveal a frieze at the back of the room of Thoko raising undead minions. We move on. The corridor continues to curve past the room, with a passageway leading off to the right. We give a listen and down the side passageway we hear a low chanting at a distance. We head off that way. The sound of chanting gets louder. We get to a cross path, straight down is another room, illuminated and there stands Corby, on a dais, with a dagger poised to plunge into a hapless victim sacrifice. Tellem screams out "Ilyria!" as he recognizes the young woman on the sacrificial alter. He notices us and sends skeletons after us. Xindge casts his spell at Corby but it misses. Sazerac throws a bonfire but it fizzles out. Tellem uses a Command spell to compel Corby to come to us. Stor attacks a skeleton but misses with his rapier, hits with his short sword. Corby moves his compelled distance and then plays his shifting card and moves backwards. Xindge misses with his spell again. Sazerac throws a knife and hits a skeleton and does some damage to that skeleton and additional cold damage. Tellem plays his sparkly teeth card then tries to shove past the skeletons. Stor misses. Corby runs away, shouting for his undead wife. He gets to the dais and casts a spell on himself. Xindge misses again with his guiding bolt, Corby catches it and hurls it aside. Sazerac throws another ice knife and does more damage. Tellem misses! Stor hits with his rapier, destroying that skeleton. Stor moves into the room past the rest of the skeletons. Tarazara comes into the room. Corby moves back behind the dais. The skeletons attack, the one with the crossbow hits Stor. The rest miss. Finally, Xindge hits Corby with a blast. Sazerac hauls ass into the room, followed by Tellem. Stor moves in to attack Corby. This, of course, leaves Xindge alone with the remaining three skeletons. Stor hits Corby but frost damage was done to Stor. Stor attacks with his short sword and does more damage but takes more frost damage. Tarazara enters the fray and tries to grapple Tellem off the dais, where his is protecting the girl. She performs a supplex on his ass. Bodyslam right to the ground. Corby casts a spell. Sazerac takes a minor necrotic hit. The skeletons scatter. They attack, Xindge takes light damage and then Xindge destroys the skeleton and then hauls ass after the necromancer. Sazerac tried to heal Stor and whiffed. Tellem gets back up and attacks Tarazara and whiffed. He moves out of her way. Stor attacks a skeleton with his rapier and dusts it. He then heals himself and moves after Corby. The Die Of Doom runs out. He runs back to the girl on the dais and makes to stab her. Tellem moves to block the blow. Corby misses. Tarazara attacks Tellem and misses. The skeleton with the crossbow at Sazerac and hits. Ouch. Tarazara moves past Xindge, who misses his attack of opportunity. Xindge then casts his spell at Corby and does a pitiful amount of damage. Sazerac goes to attack him and misses. Tellem attacks Corby and does some more damage to him. Stor moves back to attack Corby and he hits! Corby goes down, Stor stabs him through the chest and he’s freaking dead!!! YES! Stor disengages to avoid additional damage, he’s in rough shape. Tarazara attacks Tellem and hits. Ouch. Xindge hits her with a minor blast of guided bolt. Sazerac moves, grits his teeth and heals himself. Tarazara’s wound is starting to heal. Tellem disengages, he is badly hurt. Stor attempts to heal himself and fails. The crossbow misses. Xindge tried to do an attack of opportunity as TaraZara runs past and accidentally throws his hammer and it hits Sazerac. Xindge then casts guided bolt and nearly kills her with it. Sazerac throws an ice knife and kills her with it. For a second damn time. Tellem heals himself, Stor downs the crossbow skeleton. Xindge cuts Tarazara’s throat, Sazerac hits her with a bonfire. As Sazerac continues to burn the downed couple, Xindge goes around after retrieving his hammer and heals everyone. Tellem works to release the girl, someone he has a major crush on named Ilyria. She is freed and gratefully holds him. He got the girl. Good for him. Good for Tellem. We go down the corridor and go up some stairs and down a long corridor. Sazerac spots what might be trap. Xindge tries to investigate the trap and springs it instead. He is able to duck under the whooshing blade. Then we go down two flights of stairs into a room. In the room we find a shrine, a statue of Thoko and the spell book. We grab it and go. We go up some stairs, one an antechamber and the other a bedroom. We search. We find some clothing for Illyria and another spell book and 250 gold pieces! We also find a chest full of jewelry. We go back out the way we came. We head back to town!!! Xindge gives the dagger and spell books to Jerry and they are locked away in the temple’s vault. A satisfying end to the mission.
