Superstitions of the Middle Lands

There are many superstitions throughout the Middle Lands. Most of them are based on traditions that go back to before memories can recall why they were started. Listed here is a partial list of this superstitions broken down by where they are the most observed.    
Children of the Light Superstitions
  • The Children of the Light find solar eclipses to be very bad signs as they are seen as bold examples of Xi's power even though she is chained in the Lower Lands.
  • Also, full moons are seen as reminders that Xi and the Fallen are still out there waiting to return and destroy all. Very few people will risk starting a journey, or entering into an agreement around the full moon as it is seen as inviting catastrophe to follow you.
  • Those born during the night of a full moon are considered unlucky and special rites are performed to keep their souls from the Fallen.
Druidic Superstitions
  • Finding the death plummage of a songbird to be an ill omen. It's that pile/ pattern of feathers you find on the ground after a predator has made the kill and left the scene with its prize.
Empire of Kyrn
  • Among the Knights of the Empire, if you are thrown from your horse, it is a sure sign of bad luck for a year. To eliminate the bad luck, a Knight will have to de-horse another Knight in combat to pass the bad luck to that person.
Argate
  • The people of Argate consider it unlucky to pass by a beggar three times in a single day, and will often change their routes to avoid the third encounter. If it can not be avoided, then the only way to prevent the bad luck is to give the beggar three coins.
Baystead
  • If someone hiccups in your presence, you must touch your nose, or you will be the next one to hiccup.
Kingdom of Edengaard
  • Rain during the Festival of Life/Rebirth signifies bad luck for those expecting or hoping to become pregnant during that growing season. On the other hand, sun showers signifies good luck for those expecting or hoping to become pregnant.
  • Getting drunk during a festival or celebration is not only rude and disrespectful, but it embarrasses and incurs the wrath of your dearly departed and they will haunt you.
  • Walking under mistletoe is a bad omen. One attempts to get another to walk under it if they wish to curse them.
Feywild
  • It is considered an ill omen to say goodbye to someone you care for when leaving, especially for a long journey, for it implies you never wish to see them again, and thus the relationship is considered over.
  • The phrase "Best of luck" is considered an insult, for it states you have little to no faith in the person's skills and abilities to accomplish something.
