Klorin Ceremony

The year of seventeen is very important in Vloric culture. This is the year that they transition from being a child to adulthood. Regardless of gender, all must participate. Once a year all Vloric tribes will travel to the Aegis swamp and those that have entered their seventeenth year will take part in a ceremony. On the first night of the tribes arrival to the swamp there will be a great feast with plenty of food and drink, but no alcohol by tradition. The next day the children will be blindfolded and taken to a random place deep in the swamp. Armed with only a dagger, hand axe and bow, the child must survive in the swamp for one week. While on this jaunt of surving in the swamp, people may encounter one another, but it is considered an ill omen to help anyone else. In addition to survival, they must also hunt an animal of their choosing and bring it freshly killed and unspoiled back to the tribe. Animals can be anything from rabbits, to deer, swamp eel, or large frogs if one is truly desperate. Insects and bugs are not allowed. The tribal seer will then sacrifice the fresh kill in order to read what their future has in store.

History

It was once said that Rolan the Great wandered into the heart of the Aegis and walked out a week later with a vision of Vloric glory in a war. Since then, it has become tradition to send anyone coming of age into the swamp in hopes that they might also find greatness. Over time this ritual has mostly shifted to being seen as a way to toughen the people of the tribe.

Components and tools

A dagger, hand axe, and bow are all that are allowed to be given to ritual participants. They cannot be given any food, water, or even arrows. It is up to participants to fashion anything and everything they need with these tools.

Participants

Those that have entered their seventeenth year of age when their tribe reaches the Aegis swamp will participate. No other tribe member is allowed to help the participants. The only other person to take part in this ceremony is the tribal seer at the end of the ceremony.
