Kytheria

Millennia ago, the gods rose to power on their own world, and harnessed such incredible magics that they destroyed their own home, turning the once lush lands into desert. Scattered among the stars, the gods made war with the Titans, wresting what they could from the eldritch beings and striving to breath life into the Titan who made up their home world. The great smiths among the gods forged the Road of Light, a massive conduit of power that all deities could access. A dozen gods came together to resurrect Kytheria, a mighty Titan who had slept the sleep of death since before the gods emerged. One goddess created a flower that cleansed the venom from Kytheria's skin, and a mighty god sent Kytheria dancing among the stars again. A moon came to accompany her, and shed tears to give Kytheria oceans again. Slowly all manner of life came to reside on Kytheria, recreations from the lost world of the gods.   Into this now verdant land were sent curious and innovative humans, the hard working dwarves to work the wonders demanded by the gods, the aloof and illusive elves, and secretive orcneas. The four children of the gods have lived, traded, warred, and sought deeper meaning behind their creation for the past ten thousand years. Along they way they have tapped into the potent magics used by the gods themselves and acquired enough power to ask their very creators the burning questions driving their societies, though the answers always differ. In this time, empires rise and fall, philosophies are born and slowly die out, technologies have developed only to be lost and for all this time, the gods have had little to do with the affairs of mortals.   Now this has changed. For the first time in history, a human threatens to seize the power necessary for apotheosis, and even before, gods began walking among mortals, fighting and mating and working alongside them. Religious orders and the societies they're woven into have been shaken to the core, and rumors that the gods are dying have launched a desperate panic around the world.
