Emerin, Lady of Song Character in Laeonesse | World Anvil

Emerin, Lady of Song

Lady Emerin (a.k.a. Queen of Song)

The world might have perished beneath the Summer Court's treachery, were it not for the Lady Emerin. The Druids were caught unawares as the Fey was cast out into the mortal world and by drawing the mortal realm within the veil of the Fey, their connections to their sacred groves and standing stones were cut off. Many were left unable to harness the Awen as they were wont. This, the Summer Court counted on. It was the Lady Emerin who first showed that they had greatly underestimated the bards and that was what led to the downfall of the Summer Court's attempts to cement its power over the mortal world.

Personal history

Little is known of Emerin's early childhood, save that she was raised in the gentle lowlands of the Ynys Awen, surrounded by the Awen, and all who had knowledge of its uses. Of all the children, she was the cleverest and the most desirous of knowledge, asking questions far beyond the normal age for children to cease asking questions. Many a druid tried to sway her to join their circle, but she always refused, being enamored of the bards and their arts.   So as a girl on the cusp of womanhood, she traveled alone to one of the bardic colleges that populated Ynys Awen in that age. There she set to it with a will, learning all that she could, and applying herself with a passion to her music. So she became a master of the craft, the greatest weaver of the Awen that had ever been seen amongst the bards and the greatest that ever has been. Upon the completion of her studies, she wandered the isles, perhaps even to the mainland, learning new songs and new styles. Her skill with Awen was sharpened in her travels, against foes of the beastly kind, the mortal kind, and the Fae kind.   So it was that she returned to Laeonesse in the months before the outbreak of the Faen War and found the Awen in turmoil. The Druids were unaware of what was happening, the conflict had begun to spark, and within months, the veil between the two worlds was torn asunder, and mortals found themselves living in the Fey itself.   As the powers of the Summer Court and Fae-Lords ravaged the human kingdoms, slaying their great princes and warriors, Emerin found herself a wanderer in a new land. Yet unlike the druids, the bards do not draw their power from places in the mortal realm, but the Fey itself, so Emerin found her magic heightened.   Thus it was that as the human kingdoms collapsed, a remnant of survivors gathered together under the leadership of the Lady Emerin, for she could take the magic of the Fae and through her song, turn it back against them. For years, she worked quietly in the background, separating the Fey and mortal realms, until at last, she came to the stronghold of the Summer Court itself, and in a duel of grammarie and glamour, cast it back into the Fey and forever sealed the worlds so that they would never again be united.   After the duel, she disappeared, but many believe that she was met by Lynur as he came down from the heavens on his daily journey and elevated to full immortality, becoming the Queen of Song, a semi-divine figure.
