Emerald Tower

Purpose / Function

This is the center for the Deep Concern "legitimate" business, and houses the vast majority of the clerical, legal, marketing, and managerial assets. If one wants to make a deal with the syndicate on a geopolitical or corporate scale, the minimalist boardrooms of the upper floors is where they happen. The surrounding campus houses educational and training facilities for ranking members or the especially promising.

Architecture

The main building is a 45 story tower with three equal rectangular faces and matching promenades, with excellent views of the ocean. The most striking feature is the active meta-glass facade, which ripples and sparkles in a near perfect imitation of the sea. Viewed from certain angles, the building looks like a slice of sea set against the sky.

History

The decision to build the tower was deeply divisive for the syndicate. There were many that opposed working so blatantly in the open, believing that this would incite aggressive action from the powers above. In the end, the faction led by Chandra Shamoun won out, leading to the tower's construction, and a new era of prosperity for the syndicate. There have been two separate terrorist attacks on the tower. The first was late in the construction, a bombing that very nearly leveled the tower and stopped the construction. The second was in 3199 when a group of gunmen laid siege to the tower with unknown motives.

Tourism

The Emerald Tower has quickly become one of the most iconic spots in the whole city, being featured in so many entertainments that it has become a cliche.  In good weather, the promenades are filled with street performers, artists, hawkers, and tourists.
