Summary
Star's Edge is rumoured to have been created by Selûne herself, and given to a lowly cleric in her church. With the dagger's help, this cleric worked hard and rose through the clerical ranks, eventually becoming Selûne's High Priest of Ledrith. These events happened pre-Uprising, so the priest was known throughout all of Lamh. When they eventually died, the dagger disappeared from their belt, and Star's Edge hasn't been seen again since.
It is said that the dagger was meant to inspire faith in Selûne to whoever wielded it, but that it was corrupted by some evil force when it was taken by its second owner, a warlock. This corruption made the dagger ache for fame of any kind, and the more creatures and people that were killed by it, the stronger this desire became.
Historical Basis
Star's Edge really was created by Selûne and given to one of her clerics in Ledrith, but it was stolen by a Voxtein cleric of Melora. This cleric briefly became infamous in Voxtein for sacrificing animals to Melora, something she had never demanded, and died at an early age. Star's Edge did disappear from her body, just as in the myth.
Spread
Mostly known in Lasair.
Variations & Mutation
The Voxtein version of the myth has the cleric who stole Star's Edge as a hero, who was killed before her time. It is closer to the truth, as it includes the stealing of the dagger.
In Art
In the Hallowed Church of Kossuth, the temple on Lasair where the Priests of Kossuth go to worship Selûne, there is a huge painting across one of the walls of a young, poor cleric standing with Star's Edge thrust into the air.
