Riverport
Nestled against the serene backdrop of the Emberglow Forest, Riverport stands as a grand sentinel at the northeasternmost boundary of the Falcon Empire. The last town before the craggy expanse of the Calderis Mountains to the north or the uncertain journey east to the Western Sorewenian Kingdom, Riverport is a hub of activity, commerce, and strategic importance.
The city is under the benevolent rule of Duchess Anastasia Gerak, a well-loved figure known for her fairness. While humans make up the majority of Riverport's populace numbering about 3500 inhabitants, the city's diversity is enriched by the presence of dwarves and elves, with occasional sightings of Tieflings and Aasimars adding an intriguing dimension. The rare appearance of an angel is always a cause for celebration, regarded as a sign of divine favor.
Several landmarks dot the cityscape, each with its own tale. The Church of St. Ludwig stands as a testament to the city's strong faith and is known as the place where Cedric the Golden, right-hand of Empress Joan started his career. The Cathedral of St. Rosalind laden with gold and statues and awe-inspiring in its size is home to the rather unpopular Bishop Reurig it is nonetheless a significant place of worship where many inhabitants flock to say their prayers. The Gerak Castle, though unremarkable in design, is the heart of the city's power.
Central to Riverport's vibrant life is the Town Square. Amidst the bustling markets, merchants from across the Empire and even from the neighboring Western Sorewenian Kingdom trade their diverse goods.
Amid this daily bustle stands the Monument of Remembrance, a solemn tribute. At its base, a woman is hunched over a fallen figure, her face etched with sorrow. Her pain serves as a poignant reminder of the losses endured during the Demon Invasion.
Rising above this sorrowful tableau, an angel and demon are locked in fierce combat. The angel, wings spread wide, wields a sword of divine light, while the demon, an embodiment of the invading force, snarls back with fiery eyes and sharp talons. The struggle between them encapsulates the conflict between good and evil, a fight that Riverport remembers all too well.
Unknown to most, Riverport houses a deep secret beneath its surface. In an enchanted vault beneath Gerak keep lies The Book of Lena, a legendary artifact of immense power. The book's existence is a closely guarded secret known only to House Gerak and a few select individuals within the Empire.
Despite a past marred by the Demon Invasion and a brief, brutal takeover by the necromancer Tel Kuzad, Riverport maintains an atmosphere of cheerfulness. The ascension of Empress Joan in the year 1 of the Third Age marked a turning point for the empire and the city has since been on a path of recovery and growth. Today, Riverport stands as a testament to resilience and hope, a beacon on the edge of the Falcon Empire.
